We are trying to put together a guide to aid future match directors for IPSC at our club. Does anyone here have any good examples of similar guides we can look at? In our provincial House Rules there is a section on it but we'd like to format ours like a checklist with tips.

What exactly are you looking for? Tips on stage design? How to organize a match? How to run the logistics of a stage?

There is an advanced RO course that Mike Galin has started here in Ontario that covers some things, but it's mostly nitty gritty details of things you encounter as an RO or CRO and less to do with the overall match organization. Really great course, but it is not meant to cover the entirety of everything an MD needs to know. If you contact him I'm sure he'd be willing to share.

I'd be interested to see this as well. Something like "How to do an IPSC match for dummies", right?

It would be a very valuable resource, since we always seem to be looking for new people to take on MD responsibilities. It would make the role much less intimidating.

Like Mechanik touched on; the IPSC CRO course really focuses on stage design, match organization, etc.
Check in with your section's NROI rep about it - they should be able to help.

The CRO course is farther down the road for most of the helpers here. We have a real lack of ROs in general but in lieu of the RO course there are things non-ROs can do, correct?

Maybe best approach is to shadow someone that is doing a level II match locally, or ask advice from local people that are knowledgeable as you go through the process, even if they are not members at your own club.

The informal unwritten information is out there for sure. I guess I was wondering about how other people wrote and formatted their guides. Best practices stuff. I'm probably going to write it based upon best available information and that includes talking to people who already were match directors. A review of other guides is part of the process.

I think IPSC actually has a guide for setting up matches. If you are interested in hosting IPSC at your club perhaps you should contact IPSC for your province and ask for more information.

I believe it was brought up at the IPSCBC BoD meeting and it is in the works. I do know that there is a Guide for running Stats in the works.
