1 Canuck and 1 Yankee who have hunted for long time........still looking for a monster WT or MD

X2 for Buck Paradise. I don't know them personally but I've heard good things about them from people in the hunting community who are from the area. I also hunt white tails in the general area. There is a healthy population of good sized deer in their area. I think it would be worth looking into for sure.

With the winters we've had the past few years and the way this one is shaping up I'm not sure I'd be booking a whitetail hunt anywhere for a few years. If you don't care what type of deer you hunt, southern Alberta for mule deer is likely a better option for the next few years. Some great bucks around!

pretty much what I was gonna say for Sk.
we had heavy winter kill last year and this one is looking worse already.

Hi,

I have just looked at the pricing of some guided hunts offered on the net. I have never used such service, so cannot comment on the actual package, but it does look great.

However, I can fly to South Africa, meet with my two sons and one daughter in law, each hunt 2 blesbok or one red hartebeest, or perhaps a blue wildebeest cow, pay for accommodation and travelling on the farm, enjoy the sun, for less than the price quoted for a "monster White tail deer". How is this possible? And all the game is guaranteed, on a 4500 acre farm, not a fenced in camp or chair up in a tree over bait for bear, or whatever.

And yes, I have don it the past two years and we are doing it again this year. The only thing I dislike is the trouble of flying with a rifle, but the PH has a very accurate 243, a fully functional 30-06 and a very accurate (old) Husky in 9,3x62, so I do not have to throw rocks at the animals. Perhaps I should also look at Namibia, especially after having seen some picks here on CGN.

I'd skip Saskatchewan for a few years, and wait for things to improve. That's not looking that great, frankly.

In the meantime its a big old world out there with plenty of hunts available.

I would heed this advice. In central AB we have a lot of snow and ice crusts and we aren't half way through the winter yet. I feel its going to be a very hard year again for deer in this region unfortunately.

Ditto for Alberta, deer in 2013 took a real kicking due to the 2012/2013 winter. Looks this one is even worse with piles of snow and worse of all the many thawing/freezing spells. The2014 whitetail season will be a big bust!
Save your pennies for whitetail for a few more years

RSA1, I fully agree with you.
Many people are picking up on that. Beautifully African lodges, excellent meals, fine wines, great service, fresh laundry every day etc.
I feel sorry for those who are not aware of the great hunting opportunities offered in Africa, at a fraction the cost of an Canadian middling to good buck. Really great whitetail bucks are far in between. Plenty fine trophies in Africa.
