Just wondering if any of you know of any official .22lr records.
Ie playing cards cut in 1 min.
Golfballs shot off a golf tee in 1 min.
I understand distance, rifle used, no optics or optics, what shooting position, how many rounds per mag and so on, would all be factors.
I emailed GWW today asking this very thing.
Thanks for your help.

This may have been after one of the McWhirter(Ross) brothers(founders of GWW) became a victim of IRA gunmen on the threshold of his home

Tom Frye

In 1959, champion Tom Frye of Remington Arms Company broke Ad Topperwein's aerial shooting record for shooting 2¼ inch cubes of wood thrown in to the air. He managed to hit 100,004 of the 100,010 wooden blocks - using several Remington Nylon 66 semi-automatic .22 Long Rifle rifles - over a period of 14 straight days.

Tom Frye

In October of 1959 in Reno Nevada, Tom Frye, a professional and championship skeet and trap shooter for Remington, set out to surpass Marcot _ Topperwein’s world record.

Frye used three Nylon 66 rifles and shot for 13 straight days, 8 hours a day at a pace of about 1,000 shots per hour .

When it was all over he had only missed 6 times out of 100,010 for a new record of 100,004 two and a half inch square wood blocks.

The rifles had only been cleaned three times in the 13 days.

Interestingly, Remington put one of the wood blocks from the record into each of the boxes of the newly shipped rifles.

I would guess those would be the holy grail for Nylon rifle collectors if one could be found and verified.

Frye was the last of the trick shooters employed by a major firearms company for several decades.

Besides his wood block record, he held a number of clay target records as well. I remember seeing him on the Mike Douglas talk show in 1975 shooting thrown objects out of the air.

Imagine seeing popular trick shooting on a national syndicated talk show today! Frye died in 1982 at the age of 66.

In 1963, he had a run of 800 straight clay singles in trap shooting.[6][7]

John Huffer[edit]

In 1987, at the age of 50, John "Chief AJ" Huffer shot 40,060 consecutive 2½ inch square pine blocks over a period of 8 days without a single miss, shooting blocks he himself tossed into the air, for 14 hours a day. Huffer accomplished this using 18 .22 Long Rifle Ruger 10/22 rifles, which he cycled through as assistants loaded them for him. Huffer also markets a special "Chief AJ" branded Daisy BB gun, based on a modified model Huffer uses for daily practice, and an instruction manual and video for his style of point shooting.[8][9]

I think Tom still has the record for the most hand tossed blocks ,,100,010 wooden blocks [/B]- using several Remington Nylon 66 semi-automatic .22 Long Rifle rifles - over a period of 14 straight days. Tom's were 1/4 smaller n size as well ,,, both great shooters in their own right .
