Gun Blue remover ???

Can you make a good & safe home made gun rust & blue remover . For removing old rust & blue from small parts. Recipe would be nice.

Steel wool? Lol that is all I have ever used. Would be nice to know of way to strip whole rifles though.

You can soak the pieces in white vinegar then wipe off and repeat till the bluing is gone or just use naval jelly and do it more quickly.

i believe one of the commercial rust removers typically sold for removing rust from automotive chrome will remove bluing as well.

To remove the blue on firearms the metal can be placed in a warm solution of 75% water and 25% Muriatic acid (Hardware Store). Flush with lots of hot water after. Clean the bore and oil it right away. I use a 24 inch piece of 2 inch abs pipe with one end capped. Dip the barreled action in, wait a few seconds, lift it out and reverse it and dip again - until stripped, then under hot running water...

Another vote for evapo-rust. I only wish it was cheaper. About $10.00/litre at Canadian tire.

I used Muriatic Acid on a remington 700 .243 factory barrel, worked great and fast but be sure to clean it good after you used it to avoid potential rust

CLR. Fast and easy, just make sure you use it in a ventilated area or outside and wear gloves.

CLP will strip bluing lickety split. Made that mistake in my formative years...
