Not seeing any information on the "ATN SHORT TRAK HD". This camera was introduced at SHOTSHOW 2014 and I am considering it as an accessory for mutiple firearms, compound bow and crossbow. What I find appealing is it's weight (120 grams or .26 lbs), small size and 5X fixed magnification. I don't see it available at any Canadian retailers. It is on amazon.ca but none are in stock. I am not liking the go-pro for mounting on firearms and I know about the tacticam. Has anyone anything to say about the ATN SHOT TRAK HD?

I just received this camera in the mail from B&H Photo ($97). I have been wanting an action camera for hunting. Not something that mounts to a tripod or a tree or to my head. Something dedicated to being mounted on a weapon only and purpose built for being mounted on a weapon. It's obvious I have not thoroughly tested the camera, but here are my observations so far:

Pro's

it can't get any smaller;
it can't get any lighter;
with a 5X lens you can see what you shot at in the video;
solid mount;
it has one switch, on or off (that's it);
has a red light that tells you it is on.

It is a dead nuts simple camera to operate.

Cons

with a 5X lens you cannot take real close up shots, if you're closer that 10 yards the video is going to have lots of fur on it;
audio does not play with windows media player (must use itunes or quicktime viewer from my experience so far;
it's grainy for HD
no mounting solutions provided (ie, all mounting solutions require a weaver/picatinny rail)

I made three purchases following the arrival of the camera, all necessary to mount the camera on a shotgun/rifle, compound bow and crossbow. This is what I purchased:

Glo TG85B Bow Picatinny Accessory Mount Stabilizer, Black

UTG Universal Shotgun Paintball Single-Rail Barrel Mount with 5 Picatinny Slots

Looks interesting. I want to use my Gopro 3 for hunting but i find unless it's up close there really is not point to using it, it was designed to be used for a "me" camera after all, not longer ranges and I/we bought it for diving anyways. This might fill that void. I would like to see if there is a mount made for a tripod.

when i used to make ATV videos a couple years ago i found the contour HD action cam to be quite good.
for magnification you can zoom in digitally on a 1080p picture , a 5x zoom function would be nice if it was lense reliant and not digital but that would add bulk to the device.
also contour action cams are great at stabilizing image while moving.
Overall it functions better than my Gopro HD does costs less and is smaller also with a more streamlined build (not a square fujifilm type look).

I never really bothered using it for hunting but i could see how that would be neat sometimes.
It would be good for those times when your trying to tell someone you saw a massive buck and no one believes you haha.

but like the above poster said not having enough magnification can often make the whole thing pointless.
But on the other side of that coin , For a action cam id think stabilizing image while moving or wiggling with a camcorder that has Zoom would be quite hard to manage.
