Like the title says. What’s everyone using for a gun/bullet combo for your moose hunt this year and why. I will be using my Xbolt chambered in 30.06. I haven’t figured out a bullet combo but I am hoping to do so with some your input.

Choose any of the popular choices in 180 grains unless you are picking a mono metal then go 150, work the load up and have fun!
There is no perfect bullet out there, but there are many that are more than suitable.
For example, for every person who has said the Hornady SST is a lousy bullet for anything bigger than deer there are five or six that have used it with great success for elk and moose.
Same as bullets like the Bergers.
The only thing to do is stay away from varmint bullets.
For every person that says the Barnes often fail there are hundreds of examples giving one shot kills!
If it works well in your rifle it will kill.

my moose have fallen to various rifles/bullets in a fairly equal fashion.
Never had to track a wounded one or take more than one shot for the kill.
so on any given day you might find me with a ruger m77 mk2 7mm rem mag shooting 160 ish grain nosler accubonds or you might find me with a shortened no1 mk3 enfield in .303 brit , off the shelf 180gr federal SP.
I've added a stag-10 .338federal to my choices , still working out what bullet but the 210 nosler is what I'm hoping to dial it in for.
I've also killed moose with the m14 rifles in .308 and chose the winchester supreme 160 ish grain accubond for that too.

I use a 165 gr Speer Hot-Cor in my .30-06 for moose. Works well.

Me: From the Canoe and our on new forestry cuts: Sako 300WM using 180gr Hornady SST,
in thick bush (15 to 20 year old forestry cuts): Henry lever action 45/70 325gr or 250gr in what ever is left in the safe,
back up rig/ATV bushroads: BAR .30-06 using 165gr Hornady SST,

My wife: Always: Tikka 6.5x55 using 140 gr Federal Fusion SP.

For me a 165 gr Hornady Interbond in 30/06 works well.

These are premium hunting bullets that are not too expensive so some practice and sighting in is possible.

When using my x-bolt in 30-06 I shoot a 168grain barnes. Back when I was shooting lead at my meat I used the 180grain Hornady sst. Messy but effective. That thing brought down plenty of game for me. The barnes is very effective and they're brutal penetrators.

My sako 338wm is a 210 grain barnes again. Great results with both.

Browning B78 single shot 30.06
180 gr. Nosler Partition protected point bullet powered with 58 grains of R22 powder.

This year's top picks are:

Browning A-Bolt in 338 Win Mag firing 225 Grain Accubonds

Ruger Scout in 308 Win firing 165 Grain Barnes TTSX

Marlin 1895 in 45-70 firing 300 Grain Barnes FN-TSX

That's it so far, but it really does depend on the way the wind is blowing that day. Chances are I will also have my Garand handy too. A shame you can only use one at a time!

I'm just along for extraction duties this year, if I was toting a rifle it would be my .35 Whelen tossing a 200 grain TTSX or 7mm Rem Mag with a 160 accubond depending on how likely a 300 yard or further shot is.
