Recently received some new firearms that I purchased (Norinco M4 and NP-22 Sig 226). Also have some rifles through a family member, haven't been out yet though.

Regarding the new restricted firearms I received, as I am new, is there any initial care steps I need to take? For example the firearms come well oil up in the package, at least on the outside. But should I be stripping them and oiling inside, or is that done from the factory.

Any other maintenance / care I should be doing for new firearms.

Will be going out in a few weeks with a friend when hes back from USA for my first time once my SKS and Rem 870 arrive

All help is appreciated

Hi. Field strip and clean 'em. Any oil in the barrel needs to come out before shooting. Clean the mags too. You don't have to take 'em completely apart. Once cleaned re-lube 'em according to the manual that should have come with 'em.
Clean the inherited firearms too. Beats just looking at 'em.

The first thing you should do with any new firearms is to break them down and do a good cleaning to get the packing oils/grease out of them. They are great are preserving the rifle in storage/transit but bad for shooting. Some dealers do this for you when you buy them, but thats becoming rare these days. Rather be safe than sorry. Its also a good time to become familiar with your new toys.

Lube as per the manual or online references and have fun.
