I've put down a deposit on two handguns. A cz 75 sp-01 shadow for my girlfriend and a cz 85 combat for myself. What recomendations can I get for cleaners and how often do you clean. I've seen foaming bore cleaners that supposedly remove copper and lead fouling as well as powder residue. Do they work as advertised? How often do you clean before and after a shoot? Do boresnakes do a better job or not. Etc etc etc...

i use hoppes 9 and the g96, personally i have found that the g96 is a do all do nothing great way to go, it does every thing it says just not that good. if i just use this to clean my guns then run a pure solvent down the bore, the patch comes out black as night

i will use a patch and solvent on my guns after every range trip, then only use a brush when my groups start to open up.

on my .338 win mag rifle, i use a copper solvent and brush about every 50rds or so. i havnt had to use the copper solvent on any of my pistols

I currently use Break-Free and patches made from an old white T-shirt that was cut up into small pieces. I also use a nylon brush when cleaning the barrel.

I don't know anything about the foaming bore cleaners. I have never used them.

How often do you clean before and after a shoot?

I usually like to clean on the day, or the day after I shoot. I have cleaned a couple to a few of days after, but that doesn't happen very often.

I will clean before I shoot if the firearm has been not in use for maybe three or four weeks. If I haven't been able to get to the range for a longer period than that, I will still try to periodically clean the firearm.

Do boresnakes do a better job or not.
I have never used bore snakes.

Have fun with your new purchase!

OMG get a bore snake... They are great!

I've thrown out my cleaning rods.

I clean my guns if I think they have had a hint of moisture and I want to prevent rust. But I live in the lower mainland so they get exposed to rain all the time.
