I am trying to purchase parts from a couple of our sponsors, but I keep seeing the question regarding gun club membership.

Is a gun club membership required to buy parts (ex. AR15 lower)?

I am sure this is a newbie question, but I can't find the answer.

Thanks.

You need to indicate the club/range you belong to for purchasing restricted firearms (policy NOT LAW set by the Ontario CFO that the retailers follow to stay in business).

As far as I understand, as the Lower is the part of the firearm that actually fires the cartridge, has the trigger, holds the magazine, etc, thus it is treated as a firearm when its standalone

An AR15 lower is not just a part, it's considered the firearm and needs to be registered, you can leave it as 'frame/receiver only' on a registration certificate so you can swap uppers without the need to inform the CFO every time. Uppers, barrels and any other part on an AR can be bought without belonging to a club.

If you want a cheap virtual gun club membership try Silvercore.ca. They say their memberships will work Canada wide. Only $30.00.

Yes, but the Ontario CFO is giving them problems.

However, it shouldn't be a problem acquiring the lower because the Ontario CFO does NOT ask for range membership when buying a restricted.

This is what I thought as well........

I don't see where it says anywhere you need to belong to a club to purchase anything firearm related, be it complete firearms, or parts

What business is it of any store what club if any I belong to in order for them to sell me what they have for sale

I can see if they ask that you are licensed for the type of firearm/part you are going to buy, and understand if they will not sell you a restricted anything if your not in possession of that type of license

But not sell if you don't belong to a Club.....hmmmm,,,,time to make the purchase elsewhere

.

I just completed the transfer of a restricted firearm this morning, they asked what the intended purpose of the firearm was and what club I belonged to.

Base Borden Rod and Gun Club, btw.

I tried to purchase a Spike's lower from Questar and when I got to the part where you enter name, address, etc. it asks for gun licence (obviously) and then gun club membership. This is where I was like, I didnt think that was required. Also I still have to build it, and it may take a year, so I would have a gun membership for a year and never be able to go.

That's why I thought I would ask you guys. Plus I didn't remember reading gun club membership was required. Thanks for the info on silvercore.

Thanks for all the info so far guys.

Every restricted I've purchased the shop asked what range I belong to and if I purchased a restricted this year under that membership (To know if the CFO had a copy on file, if not they offered to fax it over). The CFC also asks when the shop calls the transfer in. The shop could sell you the restricted but that doesn't mean they'll approve the transfer.

they ask what club you will be shooting mostly at...

i said silvercore before having a LTATT, then i joined up silvercore and they approved both transfer and the LTATT the same day... after i faxed them the proof.

hey when do you guys shoot and who do i contact. im on course here and bored to tears.

So I called Silvercore and signed up for a membership. Then she sent me all the forms and information required. Hopefully that will work for now.

So, do I have to now submit that ATT form to the CFO before purchasing anything?

Thanks again, for everyone's help.

What is a "virtual" gun club membership good for? Not being rude, I probley just dont understand what it is and how it would help with the purchase of restricted firearms. Thanks!

"real" gun club memberships cost hundreds of dollars. every restricted weapon dealer will ask you what gun club you belong too, so to make things easier and cheaper, you can join a virtual gun club and avoid paying the hundreds of dollars for membership and possibly ease the restricted gun buying process by providing the CFO with a club name.

Of course, this doesnt give you a place to actually shoot your restricted weapons but as someone mentioned, it might be a year before your gun is fully built or ready to fire.
