Gun Club required for first restricted purchase?

So I've now got my RPAL and was about to purchase my first pistol online and on checkout as a required field it's asking for my gun club. I've yet to sign up for any club and the only local club only signs people up like once a week at a meeting. (it's very small)

The pistol I want has only 2 left in stock and after that it's gone for awhile... I'm worried I'll miss my chance at it because of this.

Is a gun club membership required by law to buy your first restricted? Or is it simply this website's preference?
Thanks.

Its a CFO preference. If you can't prove your not a member of a gun range they will just refuse to fill out your ATT. You can attempt to purchase the gun and then get the gun range membership asap. Then when the CFO calls you to ask about the gun range membership you have it.

The CFO offices can be slow unless your in Saskatchewan... so you should have time.

No sure about NB but in Ontario you dont have to be a member to buy your first restricted... Also keep in mind if your buying online, which means they will post it to you. If you were to buy it in store then the dealer takes care of the transfer and ATT.. That's what I did.

"...in Ontario you don't..." Yes you do. No club membership, no transfer.
"...only 2 left..." Most shop will hold a firearm, with payment, pending you joining a club.
There is no law that says you must be a club member though. This is RCMP/CPFO policy. Civil servants making law by regulation. Write your MP about it.

RE Ontario, I spoke with the local CFO before buying the Norc 1991 + ammo deal about not being a club member. He said it shouldn't be an issue (I already have restricted), so I went ahead with the purchase and even later ordered a second (just like Lay's potato chips). Maybe a first restricted purchase might be looked upon a little differently though. Granted, I'm in the transfer initiated phase right now and have heard nothing yet. KarlB, another thread poster in the same position as me (long time RPAL with restricted firearms already but no current club membership), said he had to accept collector status (something I would prefer not to do if possible).

RE web page checkout, I just put in "none" to fill the box, so go ahead and buy it. As others have said, the shop will likely hold it for you for a reasonable time.

In Ontario you do NOT need to be a club member to get your first restricted, or the short term ATT required to get it home. You will need to state what club you are "planning" to join, but that is all.

I got mine that way, then joined the club shortly there after. A close friend also got his approved less than a month ago, without a membership.

No you do not need to be a member of a club... Trust me my friend.. I have had my rpal for only a month and have already purchased a couple of restricted guns. After a certain amount of purchases (not sure the exact figure) the CFO will then not give you a STATT or transfer until you have a club membership...

Thanks everyone. I just filled it out and put the order through with "None currently".

I'll be signing up as soon as I can to a club.
@jiggadog I'm still looking around but for me the closest club is the "Fundy Shooting Sports" in Mispec (about 20 mins from Saint John). But I'm not going to jump into the first club I find, anyone in the Saint John area have recommendations?

Go and buy the gun, then join a gun club and phone in to get your LTATT while waiting for the approval.
By the time you receive the registration certificate, you are ready to head out to the range and enjoy the sweet sound of your purchase...

Technically I'm not a club member (pending) yet and my Ontario STATT was approved same day by CFO after a local merchant called it in and after I had put a deposit on a restricted last week!
