Hello everyone, I am currently looking to find a club in or around Durham region. I currently don't own any firearms but I am in possession of a firearms license for both restricted and non restricted firearms. Long story short I will be getting my first firearm later this summer and it will most likely be an AR-15, being that this is a restricted firearm I would like to find a club where I am able to use this firearm.

Any advice on good clubs / ranges in this area would be much appreciated. Prices for most clubs seem to be reasonable, how ever some clubs want you to spend upwards of 175$ non refundable just for the joy of applying, plus additional fees after if accepted. It almost seems like some of these places don't want new members.

I think your best bet is Oshawa Gun and Skeet if they are now accepting new members. Their range goes up to 300meters and you won't find one like that besides Sharon unless you want to do lots of driving. That will be plenty of fun with your AR-15. I can hit the 300m gong with my Norc M4 with open sights. It does have one time initiation fee. Probably that amount you specified or more. I can't remember what mine was but I'm sure it's more compared to what I paid 3 seasons ago.

I need to buy a scope soon. Been wanting one for over a year now and still haven't done it.

I haven't gone to that particular range or picked up my new membership card this year yet. Arrggh.. With the high price of gas and lack of time, I haven't been shooting much at all lately. I better go soon before they think I'm MIA.

Thank you very much for the reply John, I will definitely look into that club. I just checked out their website and I am printing off the forms now, I wasn't really complaining about the price I guess it was more the general wording of the Oshawa based TMC (The Marksmen Club) membership page that made me leery of that local club. The one you recommended is more along the lines of what I am looking for anyways especially with the 300M range.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

No problem! TMC is great if you're into handguns. Can't complain with 24/7hrs access. Their fees have gone up and up but I'll stick with them too. I need to go somewhere and shoot my handguns in the winter. Oshawa allows handguns too in their rifle range but you have to be a sharp shooter b/c minimum distance is 22-25yards.

As others mentioned, Orono and I heard it's great too. I probably would have joined but I need 300M range. Looks like you can set up your own targets at whatever distance you want. If that is true, that is great!
