I am curious about gun coatings??

Does anyone have CeraKote, DuraKote, or GunKote on thier guns?

I am looking to maybe do my new gun later on down the road but I have no clue were to start, how much it would cost or even if I could get what I want done, done.

Thanks

I have DuraKote and GunKote on several of my my rifles and the finish is great lasts a long time great wearing . Is there a performance edge over one to the other ?I haven't seen any thing to indicate otherwise. Those that know me know I dont treat my rifles like safe queens and are subject to rigors of use

Armacoat out of Edmonton just ordered three colors and a stencil. Each color is 4oz. So it will do more than a few rifles. And dealer I have talked to or all the research I have done says Armacoat is better than Duracoat, plus it is made right here in Alberta. Can't go wrong. The #780-398-2678 or780-995-2394. Tell him Jason sent you. And if you are going to post pics on here he will give you 10% off.:D

I have KG Guncoat on a rifle and shotgun. I highly recommend guncoat, the stuff if literally part of the metal it is so strong. I had mine done at a gunsmith so I have no idea how to get it or how much it costs to do it yourself.

I know he charges $125 per gun, that is all.

Just curious why do people coat these ?
Whats the purpose ?

I would be coating my SX2 to take it from a black waterfowling gun to a camo waterfowling gun... I bought the gun off a friend and it was used 2 times and I got it for $400. But the sticker was it iwas black... Good deal none the less

My long range gun would be done strictly for asthetics. It is one of those things that gives your stock gun its own look so there are not 2000 of them around.

My Rem 700 XCR TLR has a Nytrite finish... but that interesting green stock... I would rather have a desert camo stock on a black barrel or somthing like that then a funky green webbed stock.

Also I really like playing around with guns and it will give me a bit of time to tinker with my new gun and make it my own... I think it just looks way to cool! especially with the scope done too!

Um, ok.
I can see it for a hunting gun I guess, not sure the reason for a precision shoot, personal taste I guess.
Wouldn't the extra coating help keep the heat in ? For hunting who cares but for a precision shoot that would seem to be a bad thing.

I couldn't afford to do it.
If I took it hunting I'd set it down to go for a pee and lose it. It would cost me a new gun everytime I went out.

I think KG Guncote is only for metal parts because it has to be baked on in a oven. I have had a couple guns done in KG and aside from good looks, and durability, it adds a real smoothness to parts like the bolt and action. One of my friends built a 6mm Br on a Rem SPS action, before the KG the action had that ruff feeling when you functioned the bolt.. After coating it, the action functions smooth as glass.
