I have a handgun project on the go, and would like a finish which is tougher than blueing. I see Brownells sells Gun-Kote in "Gun Metal Blue" colour. Can anyone tell me if is an appealing looking finish to replace factory blue.

This is gun metal blue. Unfortunately pictures don't do it justice..at least my crappy ones.

Just a FYI..the gun blue will make every little nick, scratch or pit extremely visible. If you want a smooth finish, spend the time to sand the pits, etc before you finish it.
Also..preheat the firearm to around 300 degrees for at least 30 minutes to sweat any oil out from between the barrel and receiver, screw holes, etc.
I do that, then clean it, blast it and clean it again.
