gun painting

Yep, I have. It's more time consuming than most other methods but the finish is outstanding. From here on out it's the only method I'll use.

how did you find it any pics?
How did I find it as in how good is it? I think it's about the best finish going if you want to rust proof your firearm with an extremely durable finish.

The receiver is done in antique satin brass, barrels in gun blue.

Flat olive drab green is the colour used on this shotgun.

Here is a before & after pic of a model 99.

Hi,
Wow that certainly a great finish. What is KG ? what is the brand name?
Is the finish very thick?
Thanks
It isn't thick but it's possible to put it on thick enough to screw up tolerances.
I've found the flat colours are a bit thicker then the gun blue.
However..you can coat a screw and the threaded hole and it will screw in with no problem.

what did you use to bake the rifle in ?
Right now we're using this.

However in the next few days we will hopefully have this up and running.

For small parts we use the toaster oven to the left of the stove.

Nice work Striker.
Thanks. It's a lot of fun except when you screw something up..:runaway:
I just finished a friends model 94 and I did the receiver 4 times before I was happy with the way it looked.
The barrel turned out good the first time but the receiver looked like sand paper.
I finally figured out that the receiver was cooling down faster then the barrel and by the time I got a good first coat on it, it had cooled down to much.

Chris from KG Coatings told me a while ago..the gun blue colour likes you..or it doesn't.
Some days it hates me!:D

ETA..for refinishing a "working gun" I don't think you can beat it for rust protection and durability.
However for getting that deep rich blue you can't beat hot blueing.
The fact you have to rough up the surface to get the coating to adhere makes it pretty much impposible to get a real deep shine on it.

It looks great IMHO but if you are after a factory original look then I'd suggest hot blueing.
However..if it's your favorite deer rifle or duck gun..gun kote is the way to go for protection.
