Gun ranges in Vancouver area

Are all the gun ranges in the Vancouver area charging exorbitant prices for entry AND ammo? Anyone know of anywhere I can go that may be cheaper, or any areas I can go to shoot some pop cans in the forest?

Depends on what you're trying to do. There are two indoor ranges that offer rental guns and you must buy their ammo to use in their rental guns. They are also the only ranges that tend to offer drop-in for the general public. At least one range (PCDHFC, or PoCo range) used to allow drop ins, but last I checked they had stopped allowing them on weekends due to how busy they were with members. The range I am now a member of (Mission) only allows drop-ins a few days a year leading up to Hunting Season non-members can sight in their rifles.

The rest of the ranges tend to be membership only. You need to buy a yearly membership for them. Some have waiting lists as well. Depending on where exactly you live would depend on which ones are closest to you, and what kind of shooting you do would help dictate which range best suits you.

In general, these membership-only ranges do not have rental firearms or sell ammo. You are expected to bring your own ammo/guns (there are a few exceptions, some ranges sell shotgun ammo for their skeet/trap ranges for example, but generally speaking its a bring-your-own-stuff situation.)

Popcans in the forest is doable in a few locations, but none of them are close to Vancouver. I'm not super familiar with what is available in the Squamish direction, but going east from Vancouver you're looking at the east side of Harrison Lake.

Can't help with range info but there are very few areas you can shoot on crown land on the lower mainland. Mainly due to dickheads leaving their trash everywhere from what I have read.

That article has a lot of info including the no shooting areas in the Fraser Valley

As per Suther the east side of Harrison is probably the closest to the east of GVA
