I found a mint 1945 Long Branch No4 MkI* with an AJ Parker 4/47 sight. I can get the rifle for $750, but I've got a couple questions first.

1. Is $750 a good price?

2. The receiver has a marking on the left side, on the receiver ring. It looks almost like an asterisk with a circle around it. It is about 1/4 inch wide. The seller told me it is a "released from military" marking but I want to make sure it is not something marking a problem with the rifle.

Thanks for your help!

To me that sounds pretty high for a mint No.4 of any make or mark. But I don't know the value of an A.J. Parker 4/47 sight, and I have all the No.4s I can use. If you really want it that much .... they aren't making them any more, so keep it long enough, don't wear it out or abuse it or modify it and eventually the value will catch up if you paid too much.

It really sounds like a post war DCRA match rifle or one made up before the 7.62x51 conversions were made. It might just be worth that much. I wouldn't sell mine for less. If it is what I think it is, it will most likely have been properly bedded and regulated. The 47/4 sights are worth at least $150, maybe more to some. Be careful, check out the bore, especially the throat area. Some of these match rifles, especially in 303 Brit, have a lot of rounds down the pipe. May not be worn out but accuracy will no longer be on a match level.

Truly mint?

The sight is worth $200. The rifle is worth $550 or more. So probably not bad.

However, you can almost find a DCRA 7.62 conversion rifle with the same sight or PH sight for the same, and yours is just a rack grade .303.

Different strokes...

Saw a 4/47 site sell on Ebay today for about $280. I bought a very nice one last week for $160. Ballpark them at about $200.

I think the overall $750 is okay if you're not getting hit with tax too.

markings

A C with an arrow (called a Broad Arrow) inside it denotes Canadian Military ownership.

A Circle with a C inside it (usually on a No.4 barrel) denotes a competition grade barrel (usually 7.62 mm). Also, 7.62 mm barrels may or may not have bayonet lugs on them, I have seen both.

In case any of you folks were there, this was at the victoria gun show, below a .22 SMLE and a PCMR Win 94

I had a look down the pipe and it looks mint. I know all about the C-broad arrow mark, and I think this may be the C-double broad arrow mark indicated it was sold.

This is something I wouldnt fire very much because it is in such nice shape. It is almost as clean as my unfired 1950 Long Branch.

How about this:

It's on the barrel on my DCRA 7.62 conversion No. 4.

NAA.

Nope, I checked the muzzle end for the Canadian arsenals marking. All I found was bayonet lugs. I also checked the rifle for DCRA numbers but I could not find anything. The seller claimed it was a DCRA rifle but I dont think it is.

I had a 45 LB that was absolutely beautiful, looked unissued and unhandled. Probably made late enough that it was never used.

Nice rifles.

Sounds like you've sold yourself a nice rifle, friend.

All you need now are 0L, 1L, 2L, 3L..... you get the drift.

Have fun!

That's what it's all about.

Asterisk; Two broad arrows facing each other, point on. sold out of service.

I had a look at it again, thats what the mark is. I put down a payment on it.

I'll say again, this rifle is MINT, even the AJP 4/47 sight is MINT. It also comes with a leather sling dated 1918. I'm not sure what it is for/from but it may be worth a bit too.

Pictures to follow.

That's not a bad price - you'll find there are quite a few rare and/or unusual LE's around here, most aren't cheap but they are available which is better than some places where they aren't available at any price. I thought that rifle was very nice indeed.
