Just thought I'd ask since I know a place where these are available. What's a fair price for the following:
Ithaca Flues model - looks like a grade 1 (dog engraved on side, 1 line scroll where the receiver mates up with the wood), damascus barrels, 1914 manufacture date, very solid lockup (like a new gun), very good bores (best bores on a damascus gun that I have personally seen), very good wood with no cracks, chips, or large marks, 12 gauge, hammerless. Nice patina - if the receiver was case colored there's not much left.
The other is a JP Sauer and Sohn 12g 2-3/4" hammerless side by side boxlock - model 60 I believe. Cocking indicators on the side, a good amount of scrolling on the action, pretty tight lockup, very good bores (choke and 1/2 choke I believe), monte carlo stock, excellent blue on the barrels, can't remember about the receiver (I do remember that all the receiver screws are perfectly horizontal :D ).

Any ideas?

KK, on the Sauer, look on the table or the barrel flats for a number with 3 or 4 digits. Something like 357 or 1062. That would be the date expressed in month and year, so 357 would be March, 1957, while 1062 would be October of 1962. If the date code indicates post WWII production then the value of the gun is in the $1,000 range in Alberta. I know of two examples that have sold recently, one for 1,200 and one for 900. Edited to add: Both examples were ejector guns.

flues & sauer

A JP Sauer 60 in very good shape should be valued at 7 t0 $1000.00. they are good solid entry level guns. I have never seen one off face or worn out. A Royal woule go for 1100 to 1500.

Beware the Flues -- They aer prone to crack the action if used with modern loads - not to mention Damascus bls. That is why Itahaca replaced the series with the NIS's (New Ithaca Doubles)Even with steel bls they can not handle modern loads. You must load low pressure loads only or buy them from a supplier like Kent/Gamebore. Id the gun inquestion has a god on the acrion and it is a simple rolled engraving, it is most likely a field grade. I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it if that. Go for the Sauer --- You won't regert it!.Cheers, Grouser
