Hey all, I’ve got a nice Brno 21 in 270 that I was told was built in the early 70’s. I’m always interested in a rifles genealogy, does anyone recall who was “guncraft”.

Guncraft had 2 shops that I recall. 1 in Calgary where I worked many many years ago and 1 in Kamloops.
Calgary owners were Pete Rumsey (RIP) and Gunther whose last name escapes me at the moment. (Don't get old, your memory doesn't improve) Eddy Meck (RIP)was the stock maker for Calgary
Kamloops shop was Bob Hobbes.
Several well known CGNers worked at some point for Guncraft in the 80's Leeper, Guntech and I am sure there are others spent time there.

Gunther Kautsky ...

I worked with Gunther at Uptown Sporting Goods in 1968-69

Then I went to work for Barotto Sports in 1970... about the time Uptown closed up..

Gunther came over to Barotto Sports shortly after...

The he and Pete opened up Guncraft in Calgary... a few years later Guncraft Kamloops opened...

Thanks Dennis. I know he moved to Vancouver Island many years ago. Any clue if he is still with us?

I don't think he ever moved to Vancouver Island... that was me... I think he was around Princeton at one time...

The last I heard Gunther is living close to Didsbury... A friend in Calgary (Steve Zibresky) and I are planning on meeting with Gunther if I ever get back to Calgary.

My A-5 3" mag came from Guncraft d/t Loopyland.
I recall a brush in with the law back in the early 80's.
Maybe 1984.
Had to taker back to get the sling swivels installed when they arrived.
Parked in the alley out back and carried the gal around the 1st ave corner.
The cawpshawp was on the corner awf 1st'n Seymour.
Cawpper asked where I wuzz gewn.
To the gun shawp 'rownd the corner.
It needs to be in a case.
Yeah right.
Well, they tried.

Great shop.
Gave the Lee chap some competition.

Eddy Meck (RIP)was the stock maker for Calgary

I remember the first gun stock Eddy made about 1968... Gunther and I were at Uptown Sporting Goods and we glued a few blanks up using 1/2 inch walnut 'boards'... I think Eddy inletted and shaped the stock overnight... it wasn't that pretty... but Eddy persevered and became excellent at stock checkering as well. I did a lot of coyote hunting with Eddy just NW of Calgary ... barely out of the city in 68-69-70 ... between us not many got away...
