Guncrafter... anyone?

For some time now I have been intrigued by the Guncrafter Industries series of 1911s in the .50 GI caliber. I'd like to think that later down the road, when I'm rounding out my collection, I could possibly add one of these to the 'exotics shelf' in my safe.

However, I don't seem to hear much about them up here in Canada. I see that a couple of CGN'ers have bought Guncrafter 1911s in .45 ACP (and seem to like them), but they were purchased second-hand. I haven't seen any retailers carry them. Also, more importantly, I haven't seen any retailers carry the .50 GI ammo.

So... does anyone have a 1911 in .50 GI, or know anyone that does? Can you provide any info or feedback about the gun itself, and where you got it?

Aside from the 1911s, I see that Guncrafter also has a .50 GI complete upper conversion kit for the Glock 20/21 frame. Anyone have any info or feedback on these?

Lastly, for anyone that does shoot .50 GI... where do you get the ammo?

Thanks

No Canadian retailers stock Guncrafter yet; I have communicated with GI and made them aware of Wanstalls (who already imports several high quality semi customs 1911) but I don't know if they are pursuing a collaboration. In short, unless you want to wait for one to pop up on the EE, your only options right now is to import one (Prophet River or IRunGuns for example can help).

GIs are awesome; there's a lot of debate on how the compare to the big names and the sort of overall judgment is that they are right there with NHC, WC, EB and definitely a step above the basic LB. It's however a hot and subjective debate, so it's really up to what you like (GI have a somewhat different philosophy than the others).

I have a No Name .45 and love it; here's my review http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...fter-No-Name-(pic-heavy)?highlight=guncrafter

.50 GI can be an issue in Canada, as you'd need to import everything, afaik.

Anyone recall the joke about the State Trooper that goes something like this:
Concerned Citizen: excuse me officer is that a 45 on your hip?
Officer: yes, yes it is.
CC: why do you feel the need to carry a 45?
Officer: because they don't make a 46.

Seems that dilemma is solved.
those look like beautiful pistols

as to the ammo, youd been in the same boat my dad is in with his 460Rowland or any of those exotic 1911's.
your gonna have to buy a press and order in some brass my friend!

its time for rollies!

Aw chit...

I KNEW I shouldna opened this one up. Happens every time.

Okay boys...what is this .50 GI all about? And why do I want it without knowing a single thing about it?...?
