I have a shotgun that I want to give to my uncle
but he only has his POL

does a POL mean that he isn't allowed to buy guns or that he isn't allowed to receive guns

thanx for the input

who_krs, I don't know the answer, and if you consider this added question thread jacking, I'm sorry and will remove the post. in any case, I'm wondering more along the lines of receiving a firearm gift from a friend in the US. I noticed that Questar handles a lot of 'third party' stuff like that, but I'm uncertain if this qualifies. any direction would be appreciated. it would be non-restricted :)

Yes, he isn't allowed to acquire more firearms. Tell him to challenge the PAL exam.

Friendly, the firearm would have to go through the export/import process. There are businesses that do this. There are US gunshops who will obtain the necessary US export documentation, once you have done the work on the Cdn. end.
Who krs, POL = Possession Only Licence. No acquisition priviledge. PAL needed to acquire firearms.

I wasnt sure if aquisition meant that he could buy more guns himself

I will see if he wants to challenge the test then

someone can confirm this, but couldnt you just hand him the registration with the firearm, and have it on a sort of permanent loan?

Cheers,
Payam

CFC Web site has the answers. Firearm must be registered and borrower must have licence for class of firearm being borrowed ..check their site for full data.
Allows borrowing but not purchase or inherit. Need PAL for purchase inherit .Must also have registration certificate for borrowed firearm.
Section 33 FIREARMS ACT AUTHORIZED LENDING as opposed to transfer which is give as a gift hence PAL needed. If it's Lending you still own it not your uncle. If you gift it he needs PAL
