I was wanting to head down to Lever Arms in vancouver, but live on the island. Am I aloud to bring firearms on? Do I have to declare them? Or is it one of those things were its legal to but you shouldn't make a show of it...

Any input appreciated.

I am not sure of the official firearm policy of BC Ferries, but I have brought firearms on the boat many many times. Lock it up, keep it in the trunk, you should be good to go.

Have you ever left the Island before to go hunting?
Practice safe storage and handling of your firearms as per the Governments regs and you will do fine.
Show the ticket agent one of your selections and you will be greeted by the local police force who may or may not be so very understanding.
Then again I am sure this will turn into a 7 page thread on how to educate the Ferry staff and the local police on firearms transport rules....

Here's what their site says about firearms.

Firearms: Firearms may be transported under the following conditions:

Firearms must be transported in compliance with Canadian Firearms Regulations. Firearms transported in vehicles must be unloaded, must not be visible from outside the vehicle and the vehicle must be locked at all times when unattended.

Foot passengers are NOT permitted to transport firearms except on sailings between Port Hardy and Prince*Rupert and between Prince Rupert and Skidegate Landing*on the Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands.**On these routes, foot passengers with firearms*must report to the ship's officer once on board and are responsible for securing the firearms in a locker designated by the ship's officer. Passengers are not otherwise permitted to have firearms in their possession on board northern vessels.

On-duty police officers, armoured car personnel or peace officers authorized to carry restricted firearms in the performance of their duties are permitted by law to possess and transport firearms.

Edit: I Just looked at this thread again, hours after posting, and see that Mauser98 posted the same information directly before me. I didn't even notice it earlier.

No problem, I live in Vancouver and have a second home on pender island and I bring my firearms ( restricted and non) back and forth all the time. The bigger question is why would you want to go to lever arms??? Have you heard about reliable gun or wanstalls? Ask some of the locals about their experiences at lever arms....

I quite like Lever. Once you get to know the guys. They're a good bunch and the prices are pretty good. Plus they get a lot of red stuff before anyone else.

I also like Reliable.
