Gunsmith in Metro Vancouver??

I just went to mount a scope for my friend, and one of the holes for mounting the bases is buggered. Screw won't thread in all the way. I was thinking about trying to fix it myself (if i bugger it more, then it has to go to the smith anyways) but i don't know where to get a thread restorer/chaser in the right size...

So i guess i need a gunsmith who can fix this for me. Any recommendations? Im in port moody, so anything between Vancouver and Mission/Abbotsford would do. A quick turn around time would be greatly appreciated as well, he bought the gun from reliable at their big December sale and is itching to go bear hunting with it before the spring hunt ends if possible.
 
Rusty Wood Trading is a gunsmith and parts dealer out in Mission. His contact information is a mere web search away. For small stuff like this his turn around is really good. Catch him at the right time with a phone call and you might be able to arrange for "while you wait" service if it really is just a minor burr in the hole. If it's truly buggered and the screw doesn't hold it'll mean drilling and tapping out to the next size up. That's a lot more work and would mean the gun stays behind for a while.

Often if the thread was never used before there's simply a burr at the opening due to the final sanding and polishing before the finish is applied. You MIGHT be able to get by with making your own chaser from a spare screw using a file to cut some "tapping flutes" into the screw. It ruins that screw for anything else but if it cleans out the hole then that's a good deal.

The threads will need to be chased, as I tried to install the screw, and didn't realize it was ####ed until it was too late. I dont think it so ####ed it needs to be drilled bigger and re-tapped, but I am not an expert on this sorta thing either.
 
There's a gun shop that's not a CGN site sponsor with a quality in-house gunsmithing department.... and no it's not the gun shop with the terrible customer service.

You are allowed to mention non-sponsors by name, just don't hot link their webpage.

I'm assuming by your viva italia! You are referring to Italian sporting goods? (And the bad costumer service is Lever? Lol)

Contacted Reliable. They said they can send it to the Savage Warranty center if I want. Not sure I want to go that route though. I am waiting to hear back from them about whether or not they have an in-house gunsmith that can chase or retap the threads for a small fee, because this rifle is supposed to go bear hunting soon which wont be happening if it goes to the warranty center...

I only mentioned High Calibre because they are somewhat local to you. I've had no dealings with them so I couldn't offer an opinion. Obviously you have not been totally happy with your contacts with them.
 
Tapping is pretty straight forward if you have the tools. I bought both imp std size taps and correct numbered bits for scopes mounting plus bolts from Brownell. Easy to do but don't frack up by snapping the tap, then it gets ugly.


Got my muzzle break from Roger. Went to his shop, index it for me included in price. Great service, great break.
