Apologies if this has already been posted. Hard to believe but apparently true.

"Here’s another reason gun control won’t work (not to mention it’s against the Second Amendment in the United States): people will eventually be able to download them. Say what! Yes, people will be able download CAD files of firearms and then 3D print them. Unless you want to regulate 3D printers or the transfer of CAD files, it’s going to happen. In fact, it actually has already happened–the first step has already been taken, with the result you see here:"

I thought they made the printer illegal?

Plus they barrel and the bolt will still have to be made out of metal still.
All they have to do is regulate barrel sales and make it illegal to buy/sell/possess without license etc.

3D printing isn't all that new. Wait until you mere mortals look into laser sintering. That's 3D printing with metal.

Exactly! I think the point of the article is that technology is very hard to suppress, especially when it comes to things people covet. A bit like trying to squish some jello :D

The barrel and bolt are not regulated, anyone in Canada can currently acquire and possess them without a PAL, same in the US, but they are fairly less regulated than us to begin with... to point is, you can print the only regulated part...

as for the printers being illegal it would be the equivalent of a mill or lathe being illegal… think about it… yes, ridiculous...

You realise the ridiculousness of that statement, right?

3D printing isn't all that new. Wait until you mere mortals look into laser sintering. That's 3D printing with metal.

Knowing what is going on right now...how is that ridiculous?
Making it illegal to have the printers unless you have a license/permit....much like our beloved firearm act.

Like I said, all they need to do is change the law. I know the barrel is not regulated. And why cant they just regulate parts? They made full auto parts for Ar15(trigger parts) illegal and hard to obtain.
From that video/post....the barrel and bolt is not printed.. so i dunno what your talking about.

All 3D printers can print firearms. They can print whatever you can draw in your CAD program.

Whether they work as firearms or not is dependent on the material used.

You have to ask yourself where all this begins and ends... a lower is regulated, making one and not registering it is illegal (not sure how it works in the US)... so to regulate the illegal production of lowers you propose to make 3D printers illegal? Why not CNC machines? Thus why are barrels, uppers, bolts, carriers, small parts, etc not currently regulated?

I think what I said is pretty clear, if you can obtain an illegal lower then you could buy all the other parts currently… the laws you propose do not currently exist… I am sure it would be a lot easier for me to use a 3D printer, plus I can think of where I have access to one, but I don’t think any of the other machines that could be used are beyond my abilities…

F**kin government isn't taking away my Star Trek gadgets....they can pry my....printer? From my cold dead hands!

You will be able to buy half a dozen metal inserts on the internet which can be epoxied to a printed plastic frame to produce a reasonable lower for many firearms. No one element will be illegal to own. Same with magazines. A ten year old can have their own firearms factory hidden under their bed. And some of them will.
If 3D printers are outlawed then only outlaws will have 3D printers.
