I'd like your recommendation of a gunsmith who is familiar with the intricacies of the German Drilling. I just purchased a very nice, barely used Merkel Model 95 drilling that needs some work and some upgrades.
Add a cross bolt stock reinforcement in the "cheeks" of the butt stock. ( it's a 12 ga/9.3x74R) and bed the contact surfaces in epoxy. I think this will add strength to the stock and ensure some longer service life.
Install a Krieghoff Semper .22 LR insert barrel in the right shotgun barrel. That will require some fussy machining. I have the insert barrel and full instructions and diagrams.
Add mount bases and a Recknagel swing-off scope mount to the top barrel rib.
Perhaps re-position the rear open sight on the rib. That would require machining a new dovetail.
Fix some friction / interference in the selector mechanism, sometimes when the rifle barrel underneath is selected to fire, the right shotgun barrel fires as well. I haven't taken it out of the stock to see what is causing that problem.
In my opinion this is not work a self - taught gunsmith or typical rifle smith could do with confidence and success. Asking the brain trust on here - Who?
