I did not know Island Outfitters had the capability of installing muzzle brakes.

What rifle do you have? What kind of brake do you want?

Something like this...?

Dennis,
It could mean anything. I suspect it means the "smith" gave someone some money in exchange for a certificate. A person could print up their own, I suppose. One 'smith I knew was certified. Unfortunately, his certification was as an alcoholic and he tended to be confused as to the time of day and, occasionally, his own name.
To the OP,
Contact Guntech.

I met this guy or his clone once.

I once had Bevan King install one of his stainless barrels on a BSA action I owned. The stainless barrel looked a bit out of place on the 1958 rifle so I took it to a local "Certified" gunsmith to coat the action and barrel in teflon. The turn-around was less than a week and when I picked it up imagine my surprise to see the rifle had been coated with the bolt in the action. He claimed he couldn't figure out how to remove the bolt from the action. He was pissed to the gills when I picked up the rifle and couldn't understand why I was angry.

IO does not install them, but they do have a list of Gunsmiths in the area.
I have used Geoff Shaw, and he appears to be competent and sober :)

BTW I used to take all my toy's to Murray Charlton and his apprentice Tim, however, Murray retired and his closed his shop.

Gunsmoke - Campbell River - Kevin is a certified smith - does good work

Judging by the information on his website, he cleans guns, replaces parts, does scope installation and provides a hot salt bluing service...a far cry from a full fledged "Gunsmith". One who is able to properly machine the front of the barrel and install a brake...

The colour match will be dependent upon the blast media more than anything. If I am wanting them to truly match, I'll polish and bead blast the barrel and brake together. In general, if a person wants a Vais brake, he just needs to buy a Vais brake and have it installed and finished to match the barrel.

I have never been able to match a factory finish... close but not a match. To truly match I do the same as you - polish and bead blast the barrel and brake together.

My 2 cents...
I’m not putting anyone down or trying to start ####...but this was my experience:
I brought a rifle to ADG for a brake install. Sat there for three weeks untouched!!
I retrieved my rifle and called Dennis...I brought it to him one day at 10am and he called me to pick it up at 3pm same day.
Great guy to deal with too!
Thanks again Mr. Sorensen

My experience with Guntech has been much the same. Very fast turn around and always exceed expectations. You won't go wrong talking to guntech, he happens to be on the "island" too
