Hey everyone,
I've never posted anything in this thread, but I've lurked for some time, and I have never seen anyone ask this question, so here it goes.

I've come to the point in my life where I am expected to point myself in a direction for a career path. Being around firearms for the majority of my life, I have been exposed to routine maintenance of firearms, even today, this is one of my favorite parts about going shooting.

I love coming home after a long day on the range or out in the field and disassembling my firearm and scrubbing it clean, I just really enjoy all the intricate parts. That being said I would be interested in a career as a gunsmith, I am not aware if this is a realistic choice for a person of my age or if it's an "old mans" game.

I live in the Ontario area, but in the next month I will be moving to Calgary, Alberta.

Any information will be useful, if there are any gunsmiths here I would love to hear your input, feel free to message me.

As far as I know there is only one school in Canada doing a gunsmith coarse. Its in Monteal and you have to speak fluent french(even though Quebec french isnt real french). That is why I gave up on doing it myself.

If you're moving to Calgary you would be well served to talk to Rick at ATRS. If your idea of being a gunsmith is running CAD/CAM equipment, CNC mills and all that fun, then Rick is the guy you should talk to. This is the future of gunmaking and without those skills you're just an enthusiastic guy with a hammer and screwdriver.

Which brings me to the other side of the coin...If you want to take guns apart and clean them then put them together, adding or changing parts, then there is no future for you in gunsmithing. That's being a guy that likes firearms and has some mechanical aptitude. That's not a knock, I'm that guy myself. But it isn't gunsmithing.

You couldn't have been lurking long...that subject only comes up about every week and a half or so. Check the stickies...the whole story is there
