Hello everybody. I have a rifle here that has the stamp on the bottom of the barrel J.S. 8 96

I'm sure the numbers are when it was put together and the letters are the initials of the gunsmith who put it together. The rifle was made up in Ontario. I've asked the fellow that I bought it from who put it together but he can't remember the name of the guy.

The rifle is a M70 stainless classic, with a 26" Douglas premium. 7mm rem mag. It sits in a McMillan A2.

Does anybody know who this gunsmith is??? And if so, how's his reputation? The rifle seems to be put together well and it shoots great, but I am just curious for more info about it.

Thanks Eric

It's definitely Jason Spencer, I had him build one for me a few years back and he stamps the bottom of the barrel near the receiver with his initials and the date of the build. He is a good smith and he uses Douglas match grade barrels, at least he did for mine.
