Gunsmith to build a custom LH 338 win mag guide rifle

I am looking to have a custom left hand 338 win mag built for a guide rifle.
I have multiple custom Insite Arms rifles currently, but looking for something a bit different.
The Insite rifles are absolutely amazing, but they dont build what im looking for.

Who has built one or knows of a smith who can build me a lefty 338 win mag?
Looking for a shorter barreled 20-22" rifle with open sights, stainless action and barrel with a synthetic stock.
I will run QD rings and a Leupold VX6 1-6x24mm.
Im an outfitter in northern SK & AB and this will be a perfect setup for me.

Not interested in higher end factory rifles like Kimber, Montana or Cooper. Ive had a few and they have all been a disappointment.

What are you looking for action wise?

You could build a Tikka, (solid lefty platform) or a variety of lefty custom actions. Then just get a gunsmith to screw on a barrel of your choice. Could go way more custom but I don’t imagine it would be too hard to find someone to do the work!

That said with the shorter barrel might be worth looking at a 338 RCM.

I will most likely go with a R700 action.
I have been thinking lots about the 338RCM. It may be the better option for the shorter barrel.
 
I had K&S Arms in Edmonton build me a 338 LM left hand with a 3 lug bolt and a conventional style fiber hunting stock. See Karl or Mike they will build your 338 WM in left no problem.

I’ve got one built on a tikka so I was handicapped by the short action mags on a standard rem 700sa. That said I’m also building a second in a rem 700 SA with a carbon barrel now. I just really like the cartridge!

The LH Rem 700 is a solid choice, and there is a couple of 7mms out there for sale on the internet as potential donors...but like anything harder to find, are commanding higher prices than they once did. (I built a 338-06 on this platform and put it in a laminated stock, and have NECG barrel banded front sight and rear sight, and mounted a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 B&C in QR rings and bases. 210 Nosler Partition ammo at 2751 fps out of the 22" barrel. It has a heavier barrel contour, and is hefty with the heavier laminated stock, but is a pussy cat to shoot. Retains over 2000 ft lbs of energy at 400 yards. Enough for the largest black bear, moose, or bison you may need to put down as back up guiding in AB or SK.
(My first LH 338 Win Mag was an older BDL; shot great, and took a number of animals including moose, elk, black and grizzly bear, and bison - just had to replace the old black recoil pad with a LimbSaver. Went from bruised and sore after 20 rounds of factory 210 gr Partition off the bench, to 60 rounds with no bruising or soreness!)

And if you like a detachable magazine, the Sako Model 85 (although pricier, but of good fit and finish) would also be a solid choice...just not as many after market options to choose from. The Finnlight II is a little lighter than the Finnlight for a factory synthetic stock, but has the adjustable comb (if that is an addition or detraction for you). The older AV action is also a good choice if you prefer the bottom metal in your action. Both are very smooth, robust, and reliable. Just can be heavier. (My second LH 338 Win Mag was a LH AV, which shot the Federal 225 gr AccuBond ammo really well, and also had a LimbSaver pad installed.)
I built a 338 Federal on the Finnlight II with a 22" carbon fibre barrel and mounted a VX-6HD 2-12x42 Illum. B&C on it. It weighs 8 lbs 6 oz with a full magazine (5 rounds). 200 gr Uni-Cor ammo at 2687 fps. Retains just over 1900 ft lbs of energy at 300 yards

Another solid donor rifle in the same price range as a Rem 700 for a donor would be a Ruger M77 MkII.
I built a 376 Steyr and a 416 Taylor on these and have been verry happy with their performance.
I have finally acquired a LH Ruger (wood/blued) in 338 RCM. Performance from the 20" barrel should be equal to my 338-06, with the 225 gr SST starting out at 2750 fps. We'll see how it actually performs once I get a chance to mount a scope on it and chrony factory ammo and handloads to work up a load that it likes with a quality 225 gr hunting bullet (AccuBond, Partition, or a SGK).

And of course, there is the odd LH Model 70 floating around out there, but they are harder to find.
