CGN,

I'm interested in taking a gunsmithing course through correspondences. Ive been looking around and found a couple distance education schools that offer some courses from 800$ to 1200$.

More for a hobby's sake and helping my buddies with their firearms. Wondering if anyone has done anything like this, and would offer up some advice.

Thanks

Save your money. You need an example of whatever firearm the lesson is talking about. Gets very expensive. Nobody will lend you something to play with either. Tools are expensive too. Not all of 'em are found in local hardware stores.
On-line correspondence course sites are usually in the business of selling videos more than teaching gunsmithing.
"...from $800 to $1200..." In U.S. funds. $800US converts to $991Cdn as of today.
Buy a junker or two, a few good smithing books and rebuild 'em.

thanks for the tips, much appreciated. I do have a few buddies who would lend me their shotguns, rifles and handguns to practice on. The schools i contacted are all based in Canada. The more expensive one sends you a package of all cleaning materials req'. I am more interested in the reloading components, 'cause i figured it would save me money in the long run.

Any good reloading books you could recommend then?

I hate to discourage anyone from taking up gunsmithing but realistically anything less than full instruction in a well set up shop over a period of at least one year and better two years is a waste of money.... and this is going to be expensive.
