gunsmithing license

There is no such thing in Canada... just buy a federal firearms business license for gunsmithing and a local business license...

with perhaps a bit more focus, what are some good gunsmith programs/courses that are available? I know of one distance education program that costs $750 on their site, but when they send you your info request, they have a significantly discounted option available (or at least that's what I've been told...I'm still awaiting my info packet).

*sigh* good grief....Ontario WOULD have to be different.

Actually it's been in place for years.

Ontario has an apprenticeship program.

Steve Chaume and Jason Spenser both obtained their license under this program.

They both studied under George Pohle, the German gunsmith that sold Gunco to Jason.

So are you saying that 'smiths in Ontario must be licensed? Wasn't even aware of any kind of schooling available in Ontario, or is it strictly an apprenticeship/mentoring kind of thing?

It is Federal law that requires a Firearms Business License if you repair or work on firearms... and there is no gunsmith certification required to obtain that license.

The best gunsmithing schools are (where else).. in the US... and they cost several thousands of dollars and run from 1 to 3 year courses.

No, not at all.

I'm just saying that the licensing system is in place and has been for over 40 years.

What Dennis says is true for Ontario too.

Weird, I was actually wondering about apprenticeship programs recently when I saw a pamphlet for ontario certified trades. Any idea how long the program is?
