I have a Parker/Hale 35 Whelen 1200C.
Can you open up the bolt face and re-chamber to 358 Norma Magnum and if so how much would it be approximately ?
It has a very accurate 24" match grade Shilen barrel on her.
Or better to re-barrel something else?
And who to send it too? (Alberta/BC)

Thanks

If it is very accurate as it is now why change? Great old cartridge and feeding good as is...

The action will require alteration for feeding the belted magnum case, the bolt face and the extractor will need to be opened up... as well as chambering.

Might want to confirm the twist - if it has 12" that is best IMO - 14" (lots of Shilens were 14") and 16" will work of course for 250s. But heavy-for-calibre bullets (280 -310grs) may not.

Also think about your throating and freebore too. Original 358Normas often had an almost Weatherby type freebore my Lyman manual notes.

Good Luck!

Regards,

Whelen B
