Have you seen or received work from a gunsmith that was bad? Just wondering how many smiths really now thier stuff or have bad days and don't practice decent quality control. Personally I've seen some real nasty work and some great work from the same guys and I hate feeling that I'm flipping a coin when I send something in to be worked on.

only once and was my own fault for not thoughly checking him out prior. now i go by reputation and feedback from someone that has used a smith before. after all the good feedback guntec gets i had him rechamber a rifle for me and couln't have be happier.

Hmm, I've had good, bad, and in-between.

Gunnar did a very nice job tuning my STI Trojan.

Jeff Smith did excellent work on an AR-15 I sent him.

Arwen Ace did excellent work on a Norinco HP9.

Paul Barrette did a nice job fitting my Caspian .40 1911. A short time latter (500 rounds) the ramp sheared off the barrel at the link pin hole. Barsto replaced the barrel and Barrette re-installed it at no charge.

Charlie Taylor was asked to swap out the parts from my broken Calico M100 reciever and install them in the new one I'd gotten from the factory. He returned the gun with the safety installed backwords, and non-functional. Not impressed by his reaction when I pointed it out to him.

I had a gun supposedly repaired by a local gunsmith.:(

Lets just say that his work left something to be desired & I did not want to risk it being screwed up further.

I eventually sent the gun to Gunnar at Armco. It took a while but his work was excellent & his fee was very reasonable.

I would not hesitate recommending Gunnar for anyone who needs work on their handguns.:)

YES!!
some Job at '' DAVE TERRIEN ARMURIER''(quebec) all was Fu!#@$&ng crap!

scrap my AR15 lower, scrap my VQ trigger group and scrap my .243(muzzle brake) and never give my browning and my remington 700 that i paid for:mad:
no professional, stealer, liar don't do bussiness with him at all cost !
btw the store was close :dancingbanana:
Remington, baikal, and browning reclaim alot of money from this guy!

too bad the guy disappear !:(

Ontario Gun/Wilke removed a barrel from a Makarov for me by slicing through the frame with a Dremel cut-off wheel. Then Dlask fixed it better than new for $50. So there's some good, and some bad. :D
After hearing glowing reviews about Reliable, they installed a front sight/base on my bubba-SMLE and it must have been at least 10° from straight. Strange. Everything else from them was perfect.

no complaints here do all my own work. biggest problem in smithing is taking your time if you rush you break tools and parts although i will not rule out bubba calling himself a smith as i personally know too many of those.

I had one over-confident dor$* try to do a trigger job on a Browning HiPower the same way he did a trigger job on a 1911. Don't ask me how he could think that through...

Cost me $130 in parts plus another gunsmith bill from across the border.

He is now prez of one of the local ranges.

Anybody can call themselves a gunsmith.

Had somework done by the Butcher of St. Ann's

Had a Luger re-blued only to find the "Brass" covered pieces were not removed, just blued over.

Asked for a crown and got back what looked like someone had shoved a die-grinder in the muzzel.

The only good thing I can say about him is that he was the one who forced me to buy what is now a 12.6

Well - I guess everyone has their bad days.. I had Jason Spencer do two minor jobs for me, well within the capabilities of someone with his background. Both jobs were flawed. Not sure I'd let him have another go at one of my pieces.
