GunVault

what's the sense? you'd still need a trigger lock...

Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired AND lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is hard to break into; OR

Lock the firearms in a vault , safe or room that was built or modifyed specifically to store firearms safely.

The safe in question is an "approved" gun safe. Therefore don't need a trigger lock. Ammo can be stored in the same locked container as the firearm. I may get me one of them thar thingys.

Then any little safe would do... CTC has them cheap regularly and enough room to store a couple boxes of ammo....

I think that operating a combo lock at 03:00AM would be a little awkward. The gun safe fits your fingers, you then just have to push the buttons in proper sequence and door opens so you can access pistol and greet your middle of the night guests properly. ;)

I found a site that sells for 75USD, only they don't ship to Canada... its nice to have friends in the US :)

I've got one and I love it.

As for whether it fits the criteria of a "vault" or "safe", since they don't give any specifications to that, isn't it open to interpretation? I mean, one judge might say "Yep, that fits" and another one say "No your Canadian Tire Stack-On job doesn't fit the bill".

Seeing as there is no official definition of a "safe" from the CFC, I would be confident that the U.S. endorsements such as "Approved by California Departement of Justice", "NSSF" and "National Gun Safe Coalition" would suffice to satisfy any Canadian requirements.

I guess I have a problem calling it a vault... it's only 16 gauge... and it's a loop lock that they say it's nearly impossible to pry open... but that almost sounds like an admission that it can be pried open...

I had one when dillion was selling them... Maybe they've gotten better.... I wasn't really that impressed and got rid of it..

The Stack-On cabinet that Canadian Tire sells for $199 and goes on sale for $139?.... hard to find. I was in Le Baron and found the very same item on the floor. Regular price at Le Baron? $135. And if you have a Le Baron card you can deduct 7% from that. It is approved for use in California by the Department of Justice in the states.

I am still looking for a real gun safe and am looking carefully at the one that COSTCO sells for $439. Anyone have any comments on that one? The alternative is to splurge $2K and get a Browning and be done with it forever. The COSTCO job weighs in at around 400# empty and the Browning is closer to 1,000 pounds.

I don't think you must have a trigger lock if the firearem is stored in a gun vault, i.e a safe made and designed to store firearms....rubbermaid bins do not qualify. :p

I have two of the Costco jobs, they weigh in at 521 pounds each and are pretty decent safes. The new style (with the alum clad door) comes with a smaller pistol safe which mounts just perfect in the closet and will hold a pistol and several mags. For the money you can not beat these safes, esp. in August when they go on sale for 100 bucks off!
