What powder to start with? I will start with the 175gr Sierra SP and move on if I can't get that to shoot. Looking at Hodgdons site Winchester 748 and Hodgdon BL-C(2) will give me the best velocities with low pressures. So what one to start with? I hate buying a bunch of powders then the first one I try shoots so good I never get to the others. So which one should I start with? I know its no guarantee it will shoot but it's a place to start and move on from there. I am an IMR guy but not against trying either of those and both of them are in stock at my dealer and he doesn't have much IMR.

Thanks

For the 175 gr Sierra's Ive been using IMR-4064 with success.

I also noticed that Blc-2 gives more velocity according to Hodgdon so I will try that one next since I already have some and dont' use it much at all.

Let us know how you make out.

RL15, Varget, IMr4064 and H380 all give very good results. H380 usually works best with either standard or magnum primers and heavy bullits.

I've found that ball powders, as you describe above, require magnum primers to give consistent ignition. I have had good success with extruded powders such as RE15 and IMR 4064. There is a neat little pamphlet put out by Loadbooks USA that gives some real reloading data for the 8 mm. Its worth picking up a copy.
