H 4831 sc

Gentlemen: I have no data for this powder. I want to load some .30-06 soft point 180's. Does it perform the same and load weigh the same a H4831?

regards, Darryl

Yes, it is the same as H4831, the kernels are just cut shorter so they flow better through a powder measure and pack a bit tighter as they fall in to the case. Given the advantages, I don't see any need to buy the standard length H4831 again.

Still crunches in my Hornady powder dump. It may be shorter, but no where close to the point I'd just trust it to meter by volume consistently. I just used some and after fudging around with the powder dump for around 20 test dumps to weigh, aiming for 74 grains, I will use the dump only to get as close as I can, but still weigh each dump before pouring into a cartridge. On the bright side, it sure shoots great in a 300WM.

It would make sense that it would be a little faster. There is more surface area exposed to the flame so it should ignite a little quicker.

If you already have some H-4831 SC try it with the 180's.My BRNO ZK47 hates IMR 4350 and thrives on IMR 4831 in both 165gr+180gr Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater..................Harold
