One of the older guys in my deer camp has a really nice old bolt action rifle in still excellent condition amazingly since he's used it every year I've known him.

Anyways, his eyes are getting weaker and he asked me if I could get it a little more comfortable for him to shoot. He's got a set of cheap ass o/u see thru mounts and rings on it topped with a $20 Tasco scope (you know, the kind that the guys in the EE add another $200 to their gun price).

So anyways, I told him I had a nice 70's Redfield steel tube Lo-Pro 2-7X Wide Angle that will give him a wider field of view but now I gotta figure out what action this Dumoulin dude used.

The safety looks like it's a Mauser safety so I'm guessing were going with Mauser mounts, correct, but were they large ring Mausers or what model did they use?

Thanks for any help guys.

I'm guessing those are Weaver style bases?

I was thinking Leupold or Redfield turn in type. Would an FN be a large ring Mauser?

Bare with me, I know Savage not Mauser, haha.

I think even I can help you out on this one.
The numbers 45 and 46 are Weaver bases, which are completely satisfactory, with Weaver rings on your scope.
The FN Mauser is large ring.

Sorry for that, yes, we use Weaver as a reference style.

Leupold one piece; STD FN 49988
Leupold two pieces; STD FN 50025

These bases fit all these actions ;

Santa Barbara, FN, Parker-Hale, Zastava and all "modern M/98".

You can also get Weaver Grand Slam (S45 and S46) which are all steel bases.
