By the factory records the gun was finsihed in 1901 and shot with black powder with the 750 grain bullet and nitro powder with shot. Bores are good and the last 2 inches of barrel are rifled (new idea rifled choke tubes).
Should be interesting to play with. I just read a article in the double gun jorunal on these but was woundering if anybody else has had any experince.

Very, very cool gun. Nice Greener case too. I don't know anything about them, but I wish I did. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Holland and holland is reintroducing the Paradox. It was devised to shoot both large bore bullets and shot. The little bit of rifling at the muzzle will stabilize a single projectile enough to make it accurate, but it isn't enough to distort the shot patterns. They were available in 8 to 28 bore and they originally made about 1500 of them. It was used for everything that could be hunted. Obviously they knew somthing we don't. Don't they know you need a .460 Weatherby to hunt deer? I think you got yourself a keeper there.

As luck would have it, at the moment I'm 'babysitting' one very similar to that for one of my shooting buddies while he's on holiday. This one is an H&H under lever, has 'ears' or external hammers and really nice wood. Lots of very fine engraving on the receiver, hammers, under lever, forend release and pistol grip end cap. I don't have an inkling of what it shoots and there's twenty inklings to a clue. On one side of the receiver it says "Charge 8 to 10 drams, Case 3 1/2"". I do know the 'Beast' comes in at 16 lbs on the bathroom scale, the barrels look like a pair of Ford truck axels welded together and each measures about 0.797" at the muzzle. It's huge!!

Nominal 10 bore is .775.

That one sounds like an 8, although I have no nominal bore size reference.

8 to 10 "drams" would refer to the black powder charge.
Could well be, I don't know. I think it would be extremely difficult to hunt with, unless I could get someone to pack it for me.;) Shooting something like that looks like it could do damage at both ends.:D

Of what I have read, the 10 and 8 bores are more common then the smaller bore guns. They were like for heavy game because of the weight compared to the double rifles. It will be a 8 bore if the muzzles are 797 and the bores will likely be 835. If the bores are larger then 835, 840 then it will most likely be for brass cases. If you want to PM me the serial number I may be able to date the gun. I did get a letter from H&H on mine gun at no charge and I have a list of serial numbers and dates

If you could post some photos of the "water table" & "barrel flats" where all of the proof marks etc are. some additional info might be offered.

It is a beauty, I'd love to knock down a swamp donkey with it!
