HI

I have been reading up on this black beauty for a while. Considering getting one to go with my other HK's, guess I am "drinking" it.

Wondering what experience / advice you all have on it and where the best $$ might be had.

Appreciate any input, feel free to PM if you prefer.

Thanks

The MR223 Upper doesn't fit on AR15 lowers wait till the MR556 which is coming to the States this Summer and is basically a Civilian version of the HK416 and will fit on regular AR15 Lowers.

The MR556 will not fit a regular AR

As per HK USA:

The MR556 will be produced at Heckler & Koch's new manufacturing facility at Newington, New Hampshire from American and German made components. To conform to German export regulations, certain design changes made in the MR556 prevents the rifle's upper receiver from being used on other AR-style firearms.

If you're going to spend $4200 plus tax and shipping on the MR223, might as well spend $5K on the real deal HK416 upper.

You can then have the versatility of using it on any AR lower as well as having all the milspec parts such as the FA bolt carrier.

Just my 2 cents.

Having owned a real 416 upper, I can tell you they are very nice and very clean shooting, but are a bit on the heavy side.

THe US version won't come out until September - this means in reality no one will see it until 2011 the earliest. the MSRP is 2995 supposedly. which also means they will be 5000 USD on gun broker until 2012! hahha.

Basicly, US made receivers, German barrel blank turned by Daniel Defence and German semi-auto guts like the MR223. ( considered Daniel Defence has a hammer forging machine....I wonder how long it will take before DD will make the barrel for them)

re

get the MR223! I bought mine a few months ago and really like this rifle. It is a bit heavier than my LMT AR`s but that is not really a concern of mine. My SAN CQB is also on the heavy side....for such a compact rifle. I like the fact that the MR223 is German made (quality) and that for $4100 (Wild West Shooting, Edmonton) I get the whole rifle not just the upper. I did seriously consider this route though......

Joe at Dlask ARms has one for $3900... the best price you will find it for
I think he bought it to copy some of the components..
I doubt it was ever fired

dlaskarms.ca

as for the rifle itself....Wow!!!
I love mine...
A wee bit muzzle heavy but the extra weight helps with recoil..
dont buy one if you have little girlie arms:D

Is that the Tactical Link Bungee sling? How do you like it? Where'd you get it?

It's a tactical tailor single point CQB bungee sling from Daves tactical..
as for the rest of the rifle

Fenix tk11 tac light mounted on Fab Defence tactical foregrip
Elcan Spectre DR 1x-4x

just keeping it simple

only other thing I'm waiting on is a flash hider from Dlask Arms

Wolverine has the standard HK G3 flashsuppressor for the MR223. The thread takes standard HK muzzle device (G36, G3, HK33, HK53)

Here is my MR223 with HK UMP 45 (USC convert). Lousy pic sorry. Running Aimpoint M2 Comp, HK battlegrip, HK vertical grip, HK birdcage flash hider. In the process of negotiating a deal for a 10.4" barrel for this rifle. Will post results of this endeavor in a few weeks.

Is it the "way to go"?

depends on what type of optic or iron you want to run..

my Elcan does not need a back up as it still has a crosshair if the battery goes south...it also has a built in sight on top of the optic..

if your going to go with a red dot or hws, i suggest purchasing a flip up style front and rear for your rifle..

you can buy the H&K irons or go aftermarket.. i like the front iron for the MR223 from H&K but as for the rear buis im pretty keen on Troy and MI ..you can even go for the new Magpul front/rear for about $80 for the set..not iron but it'll do the job..

but if your going with a MR223, i suggest you spend a bit on the optic/irons..
