I'm puzzled. My HK P7 PSP (bought new!!) is registered as prohibited. Was looking at the registration and I see the barrel length in incorrectly shown as 102mm. Actual barrel length is 105mm -- still prohibited length I believe -- but I've seen some listed for sale here on CGN with no suggestion that a 12.6 license is required. So, are P7 PSPs restricted or prohibs?

RCMP says a prohibited handgun is one has a has barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length.

105mm = 4.13386 inches

I'm a little confused too. I had a P7M8 which was non-restricted (I don't have a prohib licence), and has the same barrel length. In fact, AFAIK, the PSP, P7M8, P7M13, P7M10, P7PT8 all have the same barrel length.

Sounds like it's pretty close to the "line", but I'm pretty sure all the P7 series are just restricted, not prohibited.

They are both prohibited and restricted ones out there. Take yours go a verifier and get it re registered as restricted. 105.1mm is good to go for restricted. My psp is restricted.

Most are restricted, although apparently there were a few that seemed to have shorter barrels for some reason and it looks like yours is one of them. In that case it is indeed prohibited and the only option to get restricted status would be to re barrel, since you seem to have 12/6 status, I wouldn't sweat it. My PSP is restricted

Naw, mine has the same 4.13-inch barrel as all the rest. I just never noticed the incorrect "102mm" shown on the registration. Still, when you do the Imperial/metric conversion, I'm confused why so many seem to be registered as restricted.

Thanks, I suppose I could put the question to the RCMP, but then they'd just find an excuse to raid my house...

The P7 was originally considered prohib because of the 105.x mm barrel. A number of years ago someone found out the CFC has to round up making these restricted barrel lengths by a fraction of a mm.

You should have no problem re-registering as restricted.

Good to know. Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it with the bureaucracy.

When I bought mine it was reg'd as "prohib", no problem as I have 12-6, but as you have stated I encountered others that were in the system as "restricted", as has been previously stated I got mine re-verified, photos with a digital caliper and submitted. At first I sent in the verifier forms but they then requested photo with digital caliper showing total barrel length. took approx. 3 months but no real issues. smitty223

If you measure the barrel incorrectly, by measuring from the breach end to the muzzle, with a caliper over the top, you'll have a prohib. If you measure correctly, by closing the slide and measuring from the breach face to the crown down the bore, you'll end up with a restricted pistol. It's literally that close.

So I'm not the only one. Thanks. (The re-sale market for prohibs is kinda limited.)

You'd think that by now they might have placed the P7 in one firm category or the other. Anyway, thanks for the comments.
