I was looking into those pistols and from what I read, barrel length is 105mm. According to the law, a prohib pistol is 105mm or shorter so I believe 106mm and up are restricted.

Now there are a bunch of threads with those pistol in there and they're restricted. Do they have a 1mm extension or does some model actually have longer barrel or maybe it depends of the subject, some got +- 1mm barrel?

What is it I'm missing here? :)

It actually has a 105mm barrel. But! According to OUR laws, the barrel length is measured from the breech face. When you measure according to our laws, including head space, it just barely squeaks in as restricted.

Oh, there IS one P7 variant, the K3 (I believe) that does have a prohibited barrel, but you'll know that one because it's significantly shorter, and will probably lighten your wallet by about $3,000+.

"acm" is right on (again!).

The barrel on a high percentage of P7's in Canada have a 105mm barrel if you measure just the barrel.
However the bolt face on the P7's have a recessed 'pocket'.
If you insert a rod, or the end of a vernier into the barrel with the action closed, you will get a 106 mm reading. The reason the vast majority of P7's in Canada are only Restricted. Some that were listed as Prohibited were not measured correctly. I know a fellow that picked up one that was listed as prohibited for a 'song'. He took it to a gunsmith, had it measured and processed the paperwork to get it listed as Restricted!

I own a P7M8 and it is listed as Restricted.
Marvelous gun, not only in design, the workmanship is outstanding and the accuracy is excellent. Very unique pistol. German engineering and workmanship at it's best.
Mine is one of those "never part with guns"!

Hope this helps.

The CFC has three bbl length in their system for the P7's (105,106 and 107mm) depending on the way the measure is taken, you can easely turn a prohib to restricted status...
