So I can pretty much guarantee it's a variant (MP5), but it's not on "the list". Damn...!

Sooo ###y, very spendy, super rare. But a guy can dream. :)

It is on the list, my friend. As such, that firearm is specifically prohibited, as well as its variants.

37. The firearm of the design commonly known as the Heckler and Koch (HK) SP89 Auto Pistol, and any variant or modified version of it.
 
An associate of mine had one of those confiscated back in the day. Why were some guns confiscated while others grandfathered? All the other H&K stuff was grandfathered wasn't it?
I lived through that period (and got 12.4,5,6 because of the stuff I owned) but I can't remember why it happened that way. I remember my SPAS 12 was prohib without grandfathering so I had to sell it.

You can thank Kim Campbell for that one with C-17. For whatever reason, Prohibited Weapons Order #11 (which this gun is listed under), was not covered by grandfathering, while Order #12 (which became 12(4)), and the converted autos 12(3) were grandfathered. And the worst part is, many of the guns under Order #11 were pistols, so they were already registered, making this an earlier case of registration being used to confiscate.
