Hey everybody, I'm new to the site and did a search on this topic with nothing similar coming up, maybe its been covered before, I don't know... Anyway, about four years ago, right before I got my restricted firearms license, I was certain I wanted my first pistol to be a H&K USP. At that time they ranged in price from $1000-1200 on consignment and slightly more for brand new. Fast-forward to present time and they are sitting around $1500, whether new or used!? I know U.S prices don't directly translate to Canadian prices but on hk-usa.com they are still around the $1000 MSRP, so it is not that USP's in general have gone up in price. Is this just a simple supply and demand issue that will eventually pass, or will the price just continue to increase over the coming years? I really want some help with this one because I do want to buy the gun, but not at $1500 if I don't have to. Thanks in advance.

Canadian Tire
Sells a ceramic coated 12" frying pan for: $119
Their cost: $31.95
The manufactures estimated cost: $0.10 (100% recycled materials)

They have to pay the overhead somehow.

"Do you think they'll ever come down in price?". Is that a serious question?

Is anything getting cheaper?

I don't think they are $1,500, not the base models anyway.

At one of the sight sponsors above:

Base blued model in 9 or 40: $1,080
Stainless finished slide in 9 or 40: $1,125
Custom Sport (match trigger with target sights): $1,315
Tactical in .45 (match trigger, target sights, threaded barrel): $1,510

You can find used ones down as low as $800 in the EE. Sure, lots of people try and sell used guns for new prices, but some knock a few hundred off. You just have to keep your eyes open.

I think you missed a big part of my thread... The price of the firearm has jumped up $300 dollars in price only in Canada! The price has stayed the same in the U.S. I only asked about this particular firearm because Glock, Sig, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Kimber, etc... prices have not increased in the same way. I understand inflation and profit margins. This does not seem to be that (on H&K's part anyway). You contributed exactly nothing to answering my question, and just acted like a know-it-all dickhead instead. Shove your ceramic frying pan up your trolling ass.

Hmm, all of the used USP's at "The Shooting Edge" here in Calgary, AB are $1450-$1500, and on the website the only price shown is $1499. Maybe it is just a local thing. Thanks for the help. Which sponser here deals in HK?

He's not trolling, he explained capitalism in 5 sentences.

Well there's this thing in economics called inflation, what your great grandfather could buy for $25 you'll buy for $2500. The same house when I was looking at housing sold for $30K when I was 18 is now $300K, been watching that one as kind of a benchmark, that and I really wanted it.

Well that and H&K is just expensive.... cause you suck and they hate you. :p

Simple fact is that the same time they were $1000 here they were $800 in the US, they have gone up in cost across the board. Just keep an eye out, you'll find what you want at a good price and when you do don't lowball or try to haggle, good prices don't last long enough to lowball.

Even if prices stay the same in the US, ITAR or Canadian import regulations become stricter or more relaxed with every change in government, this drives or decreases cost of the importer, retailer, and you.

In fact check out US prices right now, post election they're going nuts and it actually makes Canadian price look reasonable. This should go back to normal or perhaps not if a US gun ban comes in a AR lower will be on par with gold. Economic factors always drive purchase price.

I am just wondering why none of the other firearms have increased in a similiar fasion. A glock 22 is $700 now as it was then. A Kimber is Custom Crimson is $1300 now as it was then. It seems to be model specific to the USP. None of the other models have increased similarly either (HK45, P2000, etc) just the USP's.

There's a .40 S&W USP Custom Sport in the EE for less than $1000. That is a hell of a deal if it is in good shape and you're fine with that caliber.

USP's are incredibly reliable and accurate. The Custom Sport version is my favorite handgun. It has some upgrades over the base model such as the match trigger. The ones with a threaded barrel are effectively equivallent to a USP Tactical.

As for the prices I don't see the same increase as you. I bought my first 9mm USP Custom Sport four years ago and I just ordered another one. Neglibible difference in price even though they are from different suppliers. I think its a matter of shopping around.

Ghostie's price breakdown is accurate and has been the level for the respective versions for at least the last few years.

I'm guessing you're going to see HK start phasing out the USP's soon. The HK45 and P30 series use the same internals as the USP line. The more modern HK45 and P30's will ramp up, and the USP's will ramp down.

If you're fine with a used gun then there are lots of cost-effective options if you're patient and shop around. If you want new then I'd recommend the Custom Sport if you're going to be doing competition or lots of shooting, or just the base model if all you're doing is occasional range shooting and won't be expecting ever increasing little improvements/upgrades.

Most gun shops in Canada sell HK pistols. The prices I quoted you are from Wolverine. The $1,499 pistol on the Shooting Edge site is the same Tactical .45 for $1,510 on the Wolverine site, $11 difference. In the online age, if a shop is $500 high on a commonly available firearm like a USP, they are going to have a hard time selling it (to anyone but the woefully uninformed). Shooting Edge will be able to get you any of the USP models (except the USP Compact in 9 or 40, or the non-threaded .45 model, as they are prohibited in Canada), and their prices will be within a few dollars of what everyone else sells them for. You just have to ask.

To be honest with you, the price of USP pistols has gone down since 5-6 years ago when the Canadian dollar was lower. The base models used to be around $1,200 I believe, and they are now just over $1,000. The basic GLOCK 17 or 22 used to be like $899, now you see them for $699, etc.

Another thing to consider and shop around for is magazine prices. I've seen new USP magazines for anywhere from $40 to $60+ each. Again, keep your eye out and be prepared to act when you see a good deal.

I hope you get one. They're great pistols.

I am currently looking at a receipt that has a USP CT at $1600 all in when the dollar was crap.

Things change.

*Edit* Price of one extra mag on said receipt $90 in addition to the $1600.

I paid 800 for a usp tactical in .40 with the threaded barrel. That was in 2009, at al Simmons in Hamilton. Box, and 3mags. Condition is a1.

If you got one a year ago it was around $1200-$1300. Now that there is the NEW usp they increased the prices. If possible try and buy one sourced through Germany and not passed through the US. The only difference I could see from the old to the new is the etching. If you can try and get the real new model the non USP version.

Thanks T

Got my USP 40 for $970 brand new last year... they were usually around $1050-1100 (last year) and more for the upscale models. Expensive but it's an excellent gun. Is the premium worth it? Up to you to decide. I love mine.

New USP? What are you talking about? The HK45? Both it and the USP are still being made concurrently...

WTF are you talking about? A new base model USP is below $1100 before tax. The ones you're looking at are the USP Tactical line, which are about $300-$400 more than the base models up here. The retail price here is only about $200 more than the U.S. MSRP on all H&K pistols. Moreover, I found these pistols in stock at a CGN contributing dealer in less than 5 minutes.
