Just want a few opinions.

Currently using S&W M&P40 for IPSC - my last 2 matches, I've placed 5th & 6th overall.

I tend to be 2nd to 3rd in times, 4th-6th in total points for the stage. My hit factor tends to be pretty decent.

I just ordered an HK Custom Sport - ordered, without even touching one - big mistake maybe...who knows

Do you think I will improve from the M&P to the H&K in production class?

Congrats on a new gun.

You mentioned your placing and hit factor but not your stage percentages.
Coming in 3rd or 6th with a stage percentage of 15% isn't great. At out last match, on one stage you could have won the stage in production with a 1% score as everyone in production zeroed the stage.

I went through the "A better gun will make be a better shooter" syndrom for two years. You are better off spending your money on ammo and practicing.

Many master and grandmaster shooters in Alberta shoot the M&P in production. I don't know of anyone shooting the HK.

I went throught the Glock ($800), Tanfoglio ($2000), and ended up with a $650 M&P and eventually just took my remaining money and bought ammo for practice. I know that if a steel plate is at 50 yards I can hit it very consistantly with the first shot.

Now that I have burst your bubble, enjoy your new gun.

I am partial to the HK CUstom sport,..as I made a clean B class with one in my second season of shooting. I would have ordered a 9mm though if I were you. You can use this in standard, but get a magwell and the mags,..then put a Variant 9 detent plate in it (lever is then safety only,..no decock function). .....lever is $12.

IMHO,..and via using the HK's, Tanfoglios, and CZ shadow- the HK IS the most reliable. However,....my tanfoglio has been very close to the same reliability. I have only shot the M&P,...never owned one. I forget the name, but I think it is Cody from Alberta that shoots an HK USP. He is a junior and can shoot very well with his USP.
Shoot downloaded .40 and use it in production.

BTW, your Single action trigger press with the Custom sport kicks the ass off the M&P DAO/SAO...
out ofthe box I would say 3.3lbs.

The single action is nicer/smoother on the H&K, but you'll have the double action first pull which needs quite a bit of prep. (not really that big a deal...) also, the trigger reset is longer than an M&P which could be a bigger issue.
Web of the strong hand rides higher on the M&P which is a big bonus over the H&K (and Sigs) in managing recoil/muzzle flip.

The H&K should run just fine with down-loaded .40 (mine does) but I'd recommend ditching shooting .40 as soon as you can and shoot down-loaded 147gr. 9mm.

Pitting the two of them as a duty pistol, I'd go H&K hands down.
Racing in IPSC, I believe the advantage goes to the M&P.

I shoot 180gr at 990fps - 178PFactor I recognize that the HK has a safety, and that could impede times, I was hoping that the SA, and smoothness of the HK will make up for that.
your correct about muzzle flip in the M&P, its very little, and very manageable. MY H&K just arrived, I'll range it this weekend, and post my opinions. Dec 12th is the next match, I'll will use the USP and compare my results.

I've also noted that the last 2 competitions, either your pistol was on the table, unloaded, not racked - so after the load, I would have my first shot in SA mode.
Also, the other stages, load and make ready, you have it holstered, racked, with safety on, again, giving my first shot in SA mode....
