Hi All

Ok 2nd test and two different sets of 4.50 and 4.52

Received a tin of 4.50 and a tin of 4.52

When Loading the pellets in my Diana 52 with the 4.52 fit is fine but when using the 4.50 fit was very tight really had to push and force them in. accuracy about the same, the 4.52 a little better group. Figured possibly a printing error on the tins.

A few months later ordered a second set from another supplier the same problem 4.50 fit was tighter then the 4.52.

Has anyone experienced the same issue?

I Will do that. I guess no one else has had this issue. I have also ordered a h&n test package that includes 4.50, 4.51 and 4.52 to see the fit

That's weird. Have 4,51 and 4,52 but from a few years ago and nothing unusual. Must be a labeling or as issue at the factory ? I guess you go with what flys best regardless of what the label says they should be.

Can't say I've had that issue with H&N pellets...

A while back I ended up with a few box of Daisy 177 "Match" pellets. Never got around to measure them, but while some were a tight fit in the chamber, others would fall-out of the muzzle was pointed up.
- Shooting off-hand at 10M, I can't say I've noticed any difference in accuracy.

POI will shift when going from one brand to another, or from one weight to another.

I have not measured a bunch of pellets so am not the one to answer the questions on stuff like this

most tins have different sizes in them and unless you use a pellet gauge. Google it

you would not know this, skirts can be bent from factory or shipping and so on

lead sticks to the bottom and sides from the moulds , lead dust everywhere and on the inside of the chamber where the peeler fits

welcome to the fascinating world of pellet rifles

again not the guy to help,here just posting some beginner knowledge that is all

YES!! I'm glad you posted this, I haven't measured mine yet but I will have to. Last week I was shooting a Diana 48 with various tins of JSB's in .452-.453 (8.44gr) as well as some JSB Heavy (10.34gr). I also noticed that a few of the pellets loaded very easy BUT MOST had slight resistance. Then I shot and it sounded odd. NO HOLE!! I know I loaded!!! I checked but didn't see anything wrong?? I loaded again, but closing the gate seemed odd??? I shot 1 more but the gate closed ODD. After unloading, I saw there was a badly damaged pellet in trough!!!!! THE PELLET FELL OUT OF THE BARREL causing a dry fire. Not sure how I managed to close the gate with a pellet in there. Perhaps it got stuck in the anti Bear Trap slot??? I'm so glad SillyMike posted he has had pellets DROP out, this is what must have happened. I dis-assembled the rifle and now have to wait on a CHAMBER SEAL. I don't know how many 1000's I've fired and NEVER had a pellet drop out. I'm wondering if I should replace the spring/guide assembly with a Vortek but they're kinda pricey.

Here is my 3rd test with these pellets. Which confirms that there is something wrong possibly with packaging at the factory

1st test was Field target trophy 4.52 good easy slight snug fit, 4.50 tight really have to push them in
2nd test ordered a second set of tins from another supplier 4.52 and 4.50 same thing 4.50 much tighter fit then the 4.52

3rd test I recvd a H&N Sampler Pack .177 Caliber Baracuda Match and Field Target Trophy each with 4.50,4.51 and 4.52 pellets
Testing with my Diana 48 here is what I discovered.

4.52 = good fit snug
4.51 = tighter fit
4.50 = Very tight fit really need to push them in hard

Accuracy not much different between the head sizes but the FTT did tighter groups then the heavier Baracudas

So I will simply stick with the 4.52 but curious on 3 different test why the 4.50 head size is tighter then the larger 4.52 head size could it be the skirts?

if you order a pellet gauge or more than one in 451. 452. 450. and sort your pellets

Or just shoot the 452 and sell the rest as being sorted you win

just a thought

Pellet gauge is not the answer if a tin is identified as 4.50 and another tin indicates 4.52 why is it that the 4.50 fit much tighter than the 4.52 on 3 different sets of tins ordered from 2 different suppliers at different times

Mislabeled tins? Came from the same batch? The Canadian market is pretty darn small. Chances are, all the pellets you bought from different stores, all came in from the same distributor/batch.

If you ever go to Ottawa, it might be worth your while to check with Jocelin @ Cible Target Canada.

Maybe I'm getting older (or indifferent), but they if shoot OK, regardless of fit... I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
- Pellets are consumable
- If I'm concerned with consistency, I'll never order less than a sleeve
