Anyone loading for one of these irons? Loads ? Results? Are you using Springfield data or Modern data?

I played with 500gn cast and 10-14gn of unique for subsonic and semi-sonic loads. It was a LOT of fun.

I tried 405gr hard cast RNFP with 8 to 12 grains of TiteGroup and it loved 9 grn for a super gentle plinker load.

Thanks for the info fellas . I like the sound of the plinker loads ha ha . I have shot a couple o boxes of factory ammo with it but I have picked up some Lee dies on the cheap, well actually free and got a pretty good sized bag of 350 gr cast bullets with the dies. So hey ho, new loading project !!!

If you want to plink with a 45-70 the heavy cast bullets can still get pricey. If you can find .458" round balls you can use 10-15gr of almost any shotgun powder and still punch holes at 50yds quite accurately.
I use .431" round balls with a light coat of Lee liquid alox lube in my .44 mag lever. Load them over 10gr of Unique and I can still hold under 3" @ 50yds with iron sights; about as well as I can do with any rifle with iron sights and my poor eyes.
