Well I am thinking about grtting the H&R Handi-rifle in 500 S&W.... Anyone have any experience or thoughts on them in this cal?.. I thought it would be an interesting cast bullet shooter at modest velocities , that way the recoil wouldn't be as wicked as I hear it is!

Thanks

Bob

I've always wondered how well the Handi-Rifles hold up to handload 45-70 and 500 S&W calibers. I don't actually know anyone who has shot one of these rifles...

I've shot the 45-70 and my father in law still owns it. Very well built "cheap" gun stands up very well. The recoil wasn't all that bad.

I have one and it's a blast:p

I have an older friend who reloads and has bruises on his shoulder to prove it . I have a 6 1/2" S&W Custom Gunshop model 500 and I can get 1900 fps with factory 350 grainer Hornadys and it's a blast to shoot ....... you just hang on 'cuz you know you're goin' for a ride !

Bipoded short range fat round, sure why not. I almost bought one, actually did but cancelled. I cast and cast only, and theres just something that didnt sit right with paying as much to load as the price of the gun. Oh theres always a cost but in this case it was just too high a percentage of the price of the birch stocked gun. I'd like to here from a caster what kind of accuracy they get with high performance loads given that you have to get speed by high pressure in this thing. Usually not a cast friendly combo. Because I'm set up to do 45/70(hell even if I wasnt) I would by a second marlin 45/70 cause all said and done the cost is pretty much equal given how cheap loading for 45/70 is and you got more than a stick and some steel
