Hey guys~saw one listed in the EE a short while ago and it got me wondering if any members here on CGN own one? I've talked myself into/out of H&R guns over the years, but would like to try a break barrel rimfire out. With the availability of 17M2 ammo in S. Ontario...using a break-barrel would slow consumption down to an acceptable rate. :) Add to that, my almost 14 year old daughter mentioned (out of the blue) that she'd like to try a break-barrel 22...so maybe it's a 2-birds-with-one-stone proposition.

I have owned four of the Sportster HM2's, two Sportster HMR's, two Sportster LR's, one Sportster WMR, and two Versa Pack rifles... I don't own any now, but only due to downsizing... some of the ones I had were among the most accurate rifles I have owned at 100 meter groups... and they are an incredibly tough, solid action for the money... I don't think you will be disappointed.

Already disappointed Hoyt~can't find one! lol Thanks a ton for the input though. The seller on the EE who had (still has?) one listed didn't reply to PMs/email etc....but did get me thinking about getting one. Did you get yours new? What would the value on a new, or lightly used one be in your estimation?

They were about $249-289 new when I was looking at them couple years ago. I held off in search of something more classy
I've enjoyed every hnr shotgun I've had

lol....classy... Yeah, they're lacking if you're looking for something refined. :) I've had numerous H&R Sportsters in .22lr in my hand...tempted to buy but never did. They were $149 new, and that wasn't all that long ago. I messaged Gravel Agency (importers) and they told me this;

"H&R discontinued all their single shot rifles for 2015. They are currently working on a new receiver." Wasn't expecting that reply! lol

Glad they're bringing them back. I'm the same as you only 35 Whelen lol
Nothing against the simple design of the hnr. I'm just a sucker for case color and nice walnut.
On the list is a 1871 Uberti carbine becuz.... i want one

Love the 17 mach 2.
More companies should have them in their line ups. They make the 22 action and 17 cal barrels

H&R did have case cloured receivers and nice walnut... see the BC series.

While discontinued, they are available on the used market... usually around $200... I paid $160-$220 new for the ones I had... I made a swap barrel rifle set on an SB1 rimfire frame with the four barrels in LR, WMR, HM2 and HMR... sold at the range in a mini bidding war...

I've seen there buffalo classic and some older shotguns blued. Never knew they did others. Wish we had the barrel program that state side had for them. Cheap way to get oddball calibers.

You can always fit barrels yourself... not a difficult process... and you are right, a break barrel single is an easy way to get into shooting different cartridges... I did rebore/rechambers, straight rechambers & stubs... it was a lot of fun messing around with them for 25+ years... but since I downsized, heading into retirement, all my Handi's were on the cut list.

I have 2-and once you get used to the trigger it's one of my top 2 for most accurate in M2. I like to use it when gopher action slows down in July and practice those +100 metre shots.

Jeez...a guy has 2 of them and won't offer to sell one... :) As an Ontarian with some rimfire buying experience, used .17 rimfires coming out of Alberta/Sask. have to be very carefully considered. I've been in a few gopher patches with a .17 HMR~the action can be hot and heavy!
