A friend of mine picked up an H&R 999 sportsman a few years ago for a great deal, however the firing pin is broken. He had the intention of getting it working again, but seems to have lost interest. Im considering making an offer on it, but I need to know ahead of time what I'm getting into. How hard is it to find and replace the firing pin on these? Is the firing pin part of the hammer or is it seperate from the hammer on these revolvers? Im going to have a look at it this weekend. Any advice is appreciated.

No firing pin. You will be repairing or replacing the hammer. Try gunpartscorp.com for the part.

Numrich is showing replacement firing pins. I guess I'll have to look at this particular revolver first to know what needs replacing.

Your right, both of those have the hammer and firing pin as one. I guess it must be a matter of when it was made perhaps? I guess I'd have to look at my friends sportsman again to know which his is. Look at this one from google images:

Well I went and saw the revolver this weekend, and its not a model 999 Sportsman. Its an H&R top break, 7 shot da/sa revolver marked "22 special". Any idea which model this is?
