Been thinking about this gun for a while now and have been very interested in a break action that shoots one of the bigger pistol rounds plus this thing shoots 410 as well :D Over the past few months I've been kind of keeping my eye out for one but never really tried all that hard to find one. Yesterday decided I'd do a little window shopping and said to myself I'll buy one if I see one. Well turns out the "local" store had one in stock and I just couldn't resist adding a new toy to the collection. For now I'll just be shooting the 45's in it because the range I go to doesn't allow shot and you cant shoot slugs in this gun or at least the manufacturer advises against it but I dont see it being dangerous just grossly inaccurate.

Well here's my new toy :D

Can't wait to try her out ASAP

Smooth or rifled barrel? Front bead only...or rear sight as well? 3" chamber?

I was looking at these a few months ago. Primarily wanted the shotgun but thought the 45 LC would be a bonus. I was concerned that the rifled barrel would spray the shot and make it useless as a shotgun?? Tried to order the Tamer 20 from WWS but it is still on backorder.

I currently have a Rossi .410 with a 3" chamber that can shoot slugs well enough at 30 yards with only the front bead and patterns 3" #6 shot well at the same distance and breaks down into 3 compact parts. Thought this would be an improvement over it but with just a bead sight it doesn't seem to be much better and with the rifling it would probably effect shot pattern? Sure the .45LC is more powerful then a .410 slug but with just a front bead to aim it it is not worth it to me.

The survivor comes with a special choke for use with shot designed to stabilize the shot as it exits the bore. You remove the choke when using 45's.

Winchester-1897, if I'm not mistaken the survivor has an oversized chamber to be able to except the larger diameter 45's and your pardner probably does not. I would not recommend shooting any cartridge in a firearm unless it is clearly marked on the barrel that the gun is designed for that particular cartridge. Don't even think you could chamber a 45.

I hear ya bud. It is more of a toy/gimmick for me to have fun with:) I'm sure once I get used to it I'll be able to get decent accuracy within 30 yards.

Thanks for the info and advice. I think I will leave the .45 out of the equation and stick to bird shot.

Fozy have you used the 45's in it? If so how did you find the accuracy? How are the threads for the choke? Must get pretty fouled up no? As you can probably tell have to shoot this gun ASAP. Would have today but couldn't due to traffic issues :(

I bought the boito hiker I find it seems lighter in weight and I like wood stocks over plastic and stianless..

Personally I usually prefer wood stocks but this gun shoots 45's so the win had to go to the Survivor but can definitely see myself getting the Boito once the "gunfund" is balanced again:)

I like that line gunfund. Story of my life. Nice gun you got. I like H&R firearms. I have a Buffalo Classic in 45/70 and i have ordered a 20 guage ultra slugger. Keep them oiled they don't like any moisture on them. I shot mine at a cowboy match in the summer put in the vault and found the reciver covered in rust a few days latter

I bought this gun from WSS here in Calgary about 2 months ago. And with all things, life has been getting in the way of taking her down to the range to test out the pattern with shot and accuracy with the 45. Now another 14 days in the oil patch and she'll sit in the cabinet again. Hopefully next days off i'll make another effort to try and take her down and see how it goes.

Got her well wiped down and oiled ready for a test run on Saturday.Kinda sucks the range(indoor)doesn't allow shot otherwise I'd be bringing some shells along with the 45's.All my guns get a wipe down with my oil rag every so often plus a fresh clean oiled patch down the bore to ensure they don't rust.

Newfie, hope you get some range time soon ;)

Finally got out to the range today with the Survivor. Have a problem with the cases ejecting and was only able to fire three shots of the 45's before giving up.First shot fired and ejected perfectly. Second shot failed to eject and required a slight rapping to get the case far enough out that I could pull it out. Third shot would only come out with a cleaning rod pushed down from the muzzle.Just wondering what ammo you guys are using in this gun.
