Hi all

i have just recived my new H&R Ultra Slug Hunter 12gauge. i ordered it from site sponser Prophet river firearms. i must say i was very pleased with how promot they were with my order. i ordered it on a sunday night and it was shipped by 11am monday . then on thursady i come home to the package. open it up and start to drool.

for me it was a toss up between the ultra and the ultra-lite. ultra-lite was not to be found anyware. called and called could not find either in stock anyware. what kept me on the fence between these two guns was weight. the ultra-lite at 5 1/4 lb and the ultra at 8-9 lbs. really i decided on the ultra because i could get it from profhet river fast. i am very glad i did.

i also found out that their is a 3/4" 8"long steel wheight in the stock to handle thoes 3'' mags. with that removed its a prefect balance on my foward hand. i put a scope on it temp to get a feel for it (the other scope is being shipped). off hand i can hold it very steady compaired to my 30-06. the bearrel is about 1/8" thick and looks like it should be sholder mounted and launch gernades. i havent shot it yet as i am waithing for my press and components to come in. when i do i will report back.

here are a few pics to show how big it really is compaired to my H&R pardner 12gauge.

cool, i want one for deer hunting in 12 gauge! waiting for a guy to send me a stock for my 223 h&r superlight compact, maybe after i get my 1911 ill get my hands on one of these! are you able to shoot bird shot out of it if your hunting and you see a grouse?

Very cool gun, my favourite slug gun. It's actually a 10-gauge frame and barrel OD, leaving that nice thick barrel wall when bored out to only 12-gauge dimensions. I have the laminated version and it is very accurate. You are lucky...that is one of the nicest hardwood stocks I've seen on H&R's. Most of them are too ugly to even burn.

@whitetailwoodsarcher-from my reaserch you can shoot lead shot out of a rifled barrel. but you get a patten that looks like a doughnut with a pellet free zone in the middle. but i will pattern the gun when i get out. ill just aim to the side a bit. olny take still shots at them.

@jjohnwm- i do like the wood as well. that why i oreded this particular gun( saw the pics of the ones they had in stock). the finish is weak at best and the wood is soft. but i will put a hard finish on this stock.
